something i don't quite get, are "potted plants" a euphemism for people or no?

I sent a post about that item. Because of the virus potted plants were put in all the seats. After the concert, fans were turned o so it looked like they were applauding. The plants went to various organizations as old age homes.
Fun article, though that last sentence where the writer states "the first Black person and the first Indian person to win the role." Um, Harris was never an actor and I don't think the position is viewed as a "role". Harris certainly will be a role model for all women and particularly women of color. I also think Harris will play a bigger role in government but she won't be acting. Too pedantic?
