“To talk of immaterial existences is to talk of nothings. To
say that the human soul, angels, god, are immaterial, is to
say they are nothings, or that there is no god, no angels,
no soul. I cannot reason otherwise .. . Without plunging
into the fathomless abyss of dreams and phantasms. I am
satisfied, and sufficiently occupied with the things which
are, without tormenting or troubling myself about
those which may indeed be, but of which I have no
evidence.”
― Thomas Jefferson

A lot of evangelicals insist that Jefferson was one of them. They never looked at the preponderance of evidence to the contrary. He was probably a deist, but definitely not one to support theocracy.

What is important to recognize when mentioning things the we can not see but do exist (eg energy), is that we have evidence of their existance. We can gather evidence, facts and data to demonstrate their existance. If there are things that are claimed to exist, but no evidence, facts and data exists to support their existance, then they do not exist until some evidence, facts and data can be presented. IMHO

I think what he was trying to say is, give it all no mind!

That is a difficult one to opine on. Energy itself is real and you do recognize that. What we do with it inside our mind is individual. But it is energy affecting the way we see the world and again that is individual. When we , the humans, began understanding quantum physics, oh my, what is really real? There is an undeniable connection but not of the physical laws we understand.
