Bernie displaying his white privilage ? I found this story on Yahoo and have never read such a load of garbage
Ohferpetesake, is that what passes for thinking nowadays? Oh, wait....
A question for Bernie... "Bernie, do you think you would be elected and come even half as far if you were a black man in Vermont?"
I read the article and the teacher has a point. My questions to readers here....
I don't think Bernie is using the white privilege. He is not that smart. The problem is the followers. They are seeing the white privilege in him. Till date, I have not seen anything cute, adorable in Bernie.
Those nasty soshulists
I saw it more as a symbol against the showmanship and fake crap of the new admin. Yes representing get to work though.
I do see how some people of color might take offense to being very casual as an insult to a formal event. It is a thing rich white guys do.
I still have respect for it because screw the showmanship. I want to see real results.
I fully support BLM but this sort of thing does them no favours
@Moravian Or do you mean the article? I'm pretty sure that's an anti Bernie thing not a BLM thing. Its some right wing prick finding a sliver of truth and putting it out of context to show what they want to.
That doesn't, however mean Bernie doesn't have white privilege. Obviously he does. And I never really thought about it much but that whole rich guy dressing down to connect with normal people thing is definitely a rich white guy trope. Think Zuckerberg or Steve Jobs. Although I do thonk Bernie is much more relatable and alot less rich than them and actually walks the walk of working for working people. I was just saying I can see where the concept came from.
@MoravianDont twist my words. I can see how dessing down at a formal event could be seen as a pomuous a rich white guy thing.
To be clear I have respect for Bernie snubbing the festivities alittle. Which is what that meme symbolizes for me. I almost baought the shirt. Weather he was just keeping warm or not, that was the meaning of the meme and he leaned into it hard. Bernie is a bad ass not weakling. You don't have to play the waek old guy card to defend him. It WAS a statement and a good one.
The party and especially Biden are very performative and kinda gross. I support getting to work on real issues and not getting all googly over their fluff.
That doesn't mean the thing about white rich guy privilege isn't true. I make it a point to understand two things can be true at once. Sorry if that offends you.
There are many good reasons to resent the injustices that society has imposed on different groups of people in America. Unfortunately sometimes that creates a chip on people's shoulder and they go overboard.
Intelligent people understand that without moderation a cause can create more enemies than supporters.
Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries
I saw a clip of him being interviewed about his attire and he explained that he was just trying to stay warm. He's a little old man, FFS.
Exactly! And she complained about his physical distance? Has she heard there's a pandemic?
@TheoryNumber3 I hope her real motivation will be exposed in due course.
@LovinLarge Or she could be just another one of those Karens who love to stir the pot. Bernie Sanders is a decent man. So is Biden. But the filth they spread about them is just unconscionable. Yet they "respect" a low-life like Trump who would be pushing a shopping cart down Fifth Avenue if he hadn't been lucky enough to slide down the right birth canal.
These people could make waves in a mud pile. What a load of crap. I'm so tired of their BS! But I'm sure the lemmings love it.
