Hooray for NASA. Perseverance landed correctly.
Now it starts to search for signs of ancient life.
Here's my big question.....
What will all those evangelicals, who take the bible as absolutely literal, do if the results are positive and "The Word of God" is irrefutably contradicted?
The usual explanation in it being Gods will and works in mysterious ways B.S. We have tons of evidence supporting evolution with the fossil record and genetics, but that doesn't seem to alter most perceptions as it's whatever floats their boat and fancy for false promises of the afterlife and a innate fear of death.
To answer your question, it will depend on the particular evangelical.
Some will twist the words of the BuyBull to say that the BuyBull had already said as much.
Others will deny the scientific findings and claim that the results a hoax at best and downright lies at worst.
I think it pretty cool that we have gone to Mars. But We know more about the far reaches of the universe than our own oceans. It’s hard to believe that we have technology to go all over the solar system but we don’t have the technology to go deep into our oceans which are filled to the brink with natural resources which would help mankind in so many ways. After all it’s water that gave life to this planet. Yes many scientific breakthroughs have come from our exploration of space. Just think what is waiting for us at the bottom of the sea.
What? And screw up still more of the planet?
@BirdMan1 well you have a very valid point there
Two other countries, UAE and Taiwan also landed vehicles on Mars this week. A lot of interest is being shown for Mars.
In some Evangelical circles this would be no surprise. They believe Lucifer was "cast down" and ended up influencing people on Earth, but before that he was the main personage of Mars. Wanting to overthrow god he ended up here and Mars may hold remnants of the once great civilization there. Mars is what we see today because of this "heavenly rebellion." This is the "pre-Adomite" world that some talk about. I wonder if they will find a Crockaduck there?
Does the crockaduck eat bananas? (I forgot about that gem, thanks)
@PadraicM Nope, sorry, God made bananas to fit in our hands ... along with a few other things, evidently.
The transcontinenal railway, the Hoover dam and a few other technological achievements were in their time comparable achievements ..... and at least they had some function, some practical additional benefit for the people. while space exploration has given us, non stick pans, pens to write upside down and a decent mattress .... little to show for the billions spent.
Hey, don't put down having a decent mattress.
Well, god pulls off other creations and doesn't tell us much about them. Remember the "other " people mentioned when Adam and Eve were first here? Where'd they come from? o yeah, a parallel creation over in the next valley.
I know from where. From the writers' assholes like the rest of the crap in that book.
And where did A and E's son's go to find wives?
@BirdMan1 In the above mentioned "next" valley of course. Actually this probably refers to the interbreeding of the Cro-Magnons and the Neanderthals. Hmm, maybe the "book' actually got something right for a change in a roundabout way.
@starwatcher-al I believe that the book says they went to some city to find wives, WTF?
@BirdMan1 Well now that's a contradiction, if A and E were the first, how in god's name did we get a city already? O yeah, the Martians. I might have to actually look that one up, maybe. (Please notice that I capitalized Martians and not god. There really is more of a chance of Martians.)
@starwatcher-al There is! Some folks have theorized that the Earth was seeded by life rom Mars, arriving on a bit of Martian flotsam, blow off the red planet. Bits of mrs have beeb identified on Earth.
@BirdMan1 When I give star parties I am asked "is there life on Mars?, my reply is, "only on Saturday nights, the rest of the week is pretty dull"
Do what they do every time there's an expansion of knowledge.
Earth is round. Deny
Earth rotates. Deny
Earth revolves around the sun. Deny
The sun isn't the center of the universe. Deny.
Religion has done the same thing since the time of Galileo and his contemporaries
