Why the term Atheist Conservative is a true "Oxymoron"- from this educational review;
"There is a natural social order that all people belong to and that societies should not attempt to disrupt. There are the few who are fit to govern and the many who are not. Classical conservatism is thus unapologetically elitist."
" A useful metaphor is that of the human body with various segments of society fulfilling different but important roles—the King (or president) is the head, the Church is the heart/chest, knights the stomach and peasants the feet."
The article you seem to rely on is not worth quoting. The Writer(s) make statements and then argue for or against the statement as if it was undisputed fact. Merely because one makes a statement does not mean the statement is a fact.
Conclusion: The writer(s) are enthused with themselves, however that feeling is not warranted.
Atheists can be conservative. I can't imagine an atheist being a part of conspiracy, nuttery that has become the Republican party. An atheist can be politically conservative, I don't believe in God I have conservative beliefs myself. I don't subscribe to the lump of human garbage that is Donald Trump. To do that would be like believing the Jeebus fairy tale.
@barjoe I agree. I tend to have Conservative views, I dispise Trump, and I am a Registered Independent. I guess we are somewhat alike.
@Alienbeing I am a Democrat at this point, but I back the blue although they should be held accountable, support the 2nd Amendment, I'm a proud American, I'm for fiscal responsibility and support a strong military. I'm a social liberal, I'm for healthcare for all, top 1% paying a higher tax rate, raising the minimum wage and fighting climate change. I don't tow the party line.
@barjoe I support everything you said except minimum wage. I don't think raising the min. wage accomplishes anything over just a few years. If the lowest wage earners get a raise, everyone over them will get one at least a proortionate rasie too, After a few short years inflation will make min wage earners just as badly off as they are today.
@Alienbeing I'm not sold on $15 but $7.25 is slave wages. Nobody should get away with that. $10 should be implemented instantly. That won't hurt anybody.
Are you inadvertently spruiking christian democrats?
There will always be terms for which one seeks to distance themselves from others.
. . . . hmmmm "dlc" "dcccd" ? -- because it's in the 'cloud', because it calls itself a "college", then I guess it must have reliable/credible info ?
I didn't need to read this to know there is no such thing as a religious Liberal. Also religious scientists are few and far between. "Religious scholar" is also oxymoronic as far as I am concerned.
There are religious liberals. Did you ever hear of MLK?
There are most definitely religious liberals just as there are religious conservatives. There are numerous Christian denominations and congregations that officially are pro-choice, pro-immigrant, pro-LGBT, etc.

@barjoe OK, I'll buy that.
I agree in some respects BUT perhaps you may have forgotten about the old tale.
"Once there was a time when the body held a Conference to decided for once and for ALL who was the Ultimate Controller of the body.
The Head was the first to claim that, " Since I control ALL thoughts, nerves, muscles, etc, then I should be the Ultimate One."
Others, in an uproar, loudly disagreed strongly, the Legs claimed that with out them the body could not, the Arms claimed that without them the body could not be fed, etc, etc, and down along the line and still NO consensus could be reached.
The Anus, angered that it had not been permitted to speak and get its point across at all, decided to 'shut up shop' completely.
In a very short time the Head became dizzy, dis-functional and confused, the limbs began to wobble erratically, the other organs began to experience great pains and discomforts.
Finally, they ALL decided that the Anus SHOULD be the Ultimate Controller of the Body.
For then arose the old adage of, " It does NOT take brains to be a Boss, any Arse-hole can do the Job." LOL.
The supposition then is conservatives desire to both disrupt society and in the same instantance rule society. Because conservatives disdain all those that are either non-white or poor, as unworthy, they see themselves as the natural rulers. This would indeed make them elitist. for which we have ample examples these last four years.
Conservative atheists are just evangelicals that do not want anybody to share what the have or tell them what to do (even their God). Their politics and deep seated rationalizations differ from evangelicals very little.
I think most people who claim to be religious, don't actually believe the God nonsense. They are just hypocrites who weaponize their "faith".
@barjoe I saw that happening with the snippets I viewed on that CPAC conference. They were the KKK with suits on.
I've never understood how someone could call themselves conservative and an atheist, but they do and that's that. I agree that conservatism is based on elitism and this is hardly consistent with atheism which should also encompass science, reason and progressive social and economic values. Best not to confuse these modern right wing people who call themselves conservatives, however. Many are reactionaries and closet authoritarians. One could at least recognise classic conservatism and its roots. These modern right wing crazies deserve nothing but contempt.
