American needs realistic immigration laws. Republicans have fought them forever because they enjoy employing illegals at less than minimum wage and blackmailing them into working longer hours due to their immigration status.
We also need common sense for an aid bypasses the corrupt governments in Central America. The only thing that will really stop desperate people from fleeing their countries and their families is making them less desperate.
We have plenty of lower skilled people in the US already. Letting in more only contributes to more overpopulation and global warming. Now if a person with higher skills like a doctor or engineer should be allowed in.
@Trajan61 lazy fuckers that won't do the work immigrants do
amen sister you hit the nail on the head there
Maybe what America needs is to APPLY the existing immigration laws
Note where his cartoons came from: flagandcross com and legalinsurrection.com.
trumps actions or steven millers actually have had a bad reaction on the border and now we are playing catch up and biden needs to catch up and have a fireside chat we need to figure out how to help the parent countries so that ppl want to stay home
Why in the hell should Central America be our problem? The way it is now we’re only serving as an overpopulation relief valve for the Catholics in those countries who encourage large families which contribute to overpopulation!
@Trajan61 because they are migrating to our country and we sent criminals there that took over and were not contained by local laws to stop the migrations we need to help them where they are
you know years ago we sent birth control to those countries and it was working women were getting birth control and husband did not know and population rates were going down but republicans and Christians deiced we had to stop and births went up again and so did immigration
now if we can help law enforcement or effects of climate change and hunger perhaps we could stop at least some of the migrating families send the soy farmers now can't sell to china
@whiskywoman You are so full of crap!
@Trajan61 glad you think so but immigration reform has been needed for 20 yrs or more and trump sure did not do us any favors and im not as full of crap as you think
I love how the right winger portray Biden in a way that, if he actually were like this, I would be an enthusiastic supporter.
So you don’t think we have a problem at the southern border?
I believe we our problem is a drug war and exploitative imperialism in Latin America which destabilizes our southern neighbors which wrecks their economies and allows brutal cartels to take power which causes masses of people to flee north and end up at our boarder.
But I'm sure you've never considered it because that would involve thinking outside of the American bubble that you conservatives live in.
You ever wonder what the root cause of the immigration problem is?
You ever ask yourself why all those people feel the need to flee their home countries.
Yes, you're right, we do have an immigration problem, and @robograham explained why it's happening.
@RoboGraham Why in the hell are we responsible for people fleeing their own countries? You are full of BS!
We are the global superpower. Our policies have huge effects on countries around the world, especially in latin america which has always been our back yard. We intervene down there constantly, causing instability. Our economy policies have major consequences for them. Our drug war is extremely harmful.
Do you really think none of the responsibility is on us?
@RoboGraham I definitely don’t think we are obligated to take in immigrants from these countries. They should take care of there own people!
Darling, I an an immigrant myself...and while I know the problems most immigrants suffer I will NEVER agree to them entering USA illegally.
So, dear, don't come to me as a pompous one because I am a lot more versed than you on this matter. BTW, I speak Spanish fluently -is my language-so I know "first hand" what you attempt to tell me BECAUSE I HEAR THEIR CONVERSATIONS. Another one, if the governments of most Latin American countries were not corrupt as hell their citizens would have much better life. As an example, please read about the "Rags to richest" climb of Cristina Fernández de Kircher (Argentina's former President / actual Vice-President); this "woman is only an example of the corruption in the region.
One more.........I doubt you know that many immigrants also come to USA for personal reasons that have nothing to do with money and/or politics.
I don't deny to anybody the right to enter USA but I want them to do so legally............and "to verify their good health is among the reasons
You want to medicate the symptoms instead of curing the problem.
Is very easy to talk w/o the required knowledge ...........
@Zoltans_Queen Dear, Robo's explanation is only the tip of the Aconcagua (tallest mountain in the Americas), The rest is the horrendous corruption that affects the entire region.
Dear, don't let my white looks to make you think I am an American no educated on this subject. Do yourself a favor and visit Castro's Cuba, Chávez / Maduro's Venezuela, Evo Morales's Bolivia, Kircher's Argentina.................and when you see first hand the corruption that created U$S 10,000.000.000 fortunes in five years come back and tell me what you think. Until then, please, don't opine.
I have no doubt that those places are extremely corrupt. My country is extremely corrupt as well, but most of us Americans don't feel the need to flee our country.
The corruption alone doesn't explain the massive amounts of violence and poverty. Like he said, our policy affects them. Our prohibition opens black markets for their criminals to take advantage of. Our exploitative economic policies keeps their people in poverty as our corporations extract their resources. It's always been this way. We have a long history of backing our economic interests in their countries to their detriment. We intentionally create political instability all over the region. How many regime change operations have we participated in over the decades? Just look at the latest coup in Bolivia. It causes chaos, poverty and violence and the people who live down there feel they have no choice but to flee and seek a better life elsewhere.
How do you think we should go about solving the immigration problem?
I'm not saying we are obligated to take them in.
I'm saying that, until we adjust our economic policies and end our ridiculous drug war, they will continue showing up at the boarder in droves and many of them will manage to sneak in illegally.
@RoboGraham Well, I see you have lowered your "tone". I wonder why...LOL.
Dear, the corruption in those countries IS the main reason the people emigrate. See, when the politicians pocket the money instead of using it to better the lives of "the owners of the countries" the people have two choices: Run out or revolt. You will be safe to think they chose the first one.
Most Latin American countries are rich beyond your knowledge but the corruption, the inherited (from Spain) mentality of submissions plus an induced lack of schooling have resulted in the illegal immigration you so much fail to understand.
I want the best to all of them...here, there or anywhere...but I want them to be legal...for their sake as well as for the countries' nationals'.
@RoboGraham So what do you purpose, making hard core drugs like cocaine, crack, meth and heroin legal?
@RoboGraham ""I'm saying that, until we adjust our economic policies """"
IAW "If the family next to my house is starving because the husband / father is using his income to buy homes and cars and is giving nothing to his wife / kids I must adjust my """economic policies""" to help said family. No, dear, you are wrong.
My tone has been low this whole time. I can't help but notice however, that yours is patronizing and arrogant.
You say that I fail to understand while you demonstrate your misunderstanding by focusing in on only one factor causing the problem. Corruption is of course an issue, but it does not explain the exodus occurring. And much of that corruption is directly attributable to the policies of the USA. We use our power and influence to install corrupt leaders who are friendly toward our economic interests at the detriment of their country, people, and economy. We topple governments to put in place puppets who are happy to pocket large portions of revenue with the blessing of the CIA and American corporations. You clearly are not aware of the history of the region.
You're right, under such conditions, caused by American policy, they have those two options, run or revolt. They do a lot of running, which is why we have a crisis at the border. They also do a lot of revolting. And when they do, our military and intelligence agencies are always there to trample on their attempts to set themselves free. We helped the Contras fight the Sandinistas, we tried to topple the Cuban Revolution with the bay of pigs, we instigated a coup in Chile in the 70's which caused the brutal Pinochet dictatorship, we put crippling sanction on the Venezuelans, we outright own and dominate Puerto Rico, most of Central America is a bloody mess thanks to our drug war and the fact that we forced them to be banana republics for so many decades... We have created a chaotic mess for our own benefit and people like you blame the victims when they try to run for their lives.
If you truly want what's best for them, as you claim, the first step is to open your mind and try to understand that what our government and corporations are doing is what is causing the chaos and misery south of the border. We can help them tremendously by changing our economic and foreign policies. And in doing so, we can fix our own immigration problem as well.
Your analogy is totally bogus. It in no way resembles the reality of the situation.
Yes, of course. The decision to use drugs is between that person and their doctor. Free people make their own decisions regarding their personal life choices. The government and justice system has no business getting involved with those choices. We tried this stupid prohibition policy with alcohol and it was a disaster. Alcohol is a harmful drug if used irresponsibly but we learned that outlawing it doesn't fix that, it just makes everything worse.
It's the same for other drugs, the prohibition makes everything worse. It opens up a thriving and violent black market. It funds the gangs and the cartels. It is a massive contributing factor to the immigration crisis because the cartels are completely funded by the black market created by drug prohibition. And it's so much less safe for people because the market is completely unregulated, so there is no quality control. You never know what you are getting and that makes it incredibly dangerous.
The drug war has exploded the prison population. We have over 2 million of our citizens in prison. The largest prison population in the entire world by far. It's stupidly costly to incarcerate so many people and it is detrimental to the goal of reducing drug use because putting people in prison makes them more likely to continue using. They have a hard time getting jobs and putting their lives together after getting out and stability is what an addict needs to turn their life around, without a job and steady income, it's very unlikely that a person can quit and change their life for the better.
The way we handle this issue is totally backward. It would be much more sensible to use a small fraction of all the money we waste on sending people to prison and use it to put them in rehab instead. And for those who use drugs responsibly, as most do, just leave them alone and allow them to be free American citizens making their choices about their own damn lives. You have no right to put a man in a cage because he decides to use a drug that you don't like.
These two are clearly closed minded and propagandized. You explain it all very well, but I highly doubt they will even really consider what you are trying to get across to them. They haven't a clue of what is happening down there and the Dunning-Kruger is on full display.
@RoboGraham No, it is not bogus but one that you can understand. My taxes can't / shouldn't go to solve the problems created by the corrupt ones.
@RoboGraham No, dear, no patronizing neither arrogant. Simply, the tone of a person who knows a lot more than you on this matter...Don't feel bad; you should investigate deeper. Bye.
You know so much more than I do, but you don't even attempt to grapple with the information I provided you. Clearly, you aren't interested in having a productive and substantive discussion of this issue.
Yes, bye. I'm glad you've decided to tuck tail and end the debate. It's really pointless attempting to communicate with someone so closed minded and smugnerant as you are.
Couldn't be more true. I'm done with this nonsense.
@RoboGraham I don't care about info. that's not first hand..........neither I care to help people whose destinies should be protected by the authorities they elected and not by USA's taxpayers.
And no, nobody can blame USA for taking the advantage of what the "victims " do not protect.. The illegsl immigrants hsave "some" rights...is not our fault if they are not aware of them.
What if they didn't elect their authorities. What if their authorities were put in place through the influence and nefarious activities of a local superpower and that's what's causing all the chaos in their country?
You don't care about information?
Well, that explains a lot.
@Zoltans_Queen I guess you can't interpret what I write....since I have the info. on this subject and it's first hand..........So, dear, the LOL is on you.
See, dear, as a Latina, perfectly fluent in Spanish, living in NY...and having been a teacher in NYC during decades I don't need whatever you or other liberals have to say.
I suggest you read what I write and not hat you think I did.
@RoboGraham Exactly like Biden? LOL
Are you actually as foolish as this post indicates? Too bad, so sad.......
You are the one who appears to be a fool!
@Trajan61 no she has more snap than you apparently
@whiskywoman She’s a lot less sensible for sure!
These are Right Wing lies about Biden, not Biden policy. Please, inform yourself before trying to misinform others.
Evidently you never watch anything except CNN (communist news network) and MSNBC!
@Trajan61 better than fox or OLN or those propaganda bullshit broadcasts
The Cubans were told the same....65 years ago. BTW, if you never visited the "real" Cuba don't opine.
