First day on here. How would you describe your experience on Agnostic.com. Looks like a lot of interesting conversations and isn't typical of a dating site.

People here seem generally more intelligent and open minded. That is a good thing!

Welcome. It's more of a community site for me.

@hazelbazel you're welcome.

It's like being in a coffee shop with hundreds of people carrying on thousands of conversations. I'm not here dating, so for me it a place for a more thoughtful conversation. Without the annoying Share if you say Amen!

Welcome to the asylum. Enjoy your stay.
There is nothing 'typical' about this site.
A lot of us are here for community, and not dating.

@hazelbazel Actually, it IS a dating site. There are quite a few members who've signed up for dating, and stayed for the community. There is a wonderful bunch of people here.

Perhaps some of the members here seek not only romantic stimulation, but also intelligent conversation. There are many here solely for community.

Sounds like you've already figured out the site. 😛

Let your naked mind unravel, think your innermost questions and don't look for anything Religious for an answer. Bare it all for this is only a reply to what you display which consists of mostly intellectually naked persons.

From the number of comments to your post, I am getting the idea that you are already feeling welcome. Great!

I may be in the minority, but I do not have a Facebook account and arrived here through reading a magazine article. It was not until I began answering the questions that I realized that some members use it as a dating site. As for discussions, there is no distinction between those of us who are here for the community and those who are here for the community and possible dating. That's a good thing 🙂

I have been a member for about two months, and all of my experiences have been positive.

I was posting stuff before actually realizing it was a dating sight.

Welcome. I'm here for community and I like it so far.

So far my experience has been good. I'm kinda shy at first, so I'm still warming up to everyone.

We are happy to have you here.

It sure isn't. Welcome to a freethinker community. Our New England contingent is growing. Let me know if you need help.

@hazelbazel as far as I can figure, the "levels" are a way to prevent bots and other such "spammy" abuses. I think it's brilliant... basically... the more you participate in the community... more ability you have to influence it.

What is the evolutionary strategy for religion? Every society has one. Or is it that no society without a religion has survived? Certainly for primitive societies religion answered a lot of un-answerable questions, but with knowledge many religions, fearing loss of political influence, actively opposed world-facts (as opposed to world-views), to the point of persecution.

Hi Hazelbazel. Always good to meet a fellow Bangorian. I am here more for the community than for dating, being happily for 56 years. It's also good to meet a fellow educator. I am currently substitute teaching for The Penobscot Job Corps. I am good with the remedial math and English, as well as the hard trades. Where, what do you teach?

It's an interesting mix, from non-religious and indifferent to outright anti-religious. Don't be surprised if you end up being accused of being a 'God botherer' by staunch anti-theists if you take a position of being able to see both sides.

Taboo subjects seem to raise their heads every once in a while (how many times have we discussed incest?) When they do, they're generally debated rationally, rather than faced with the moral outrage you'd normally get for even raising the subject somewhere where Christianity was still providing the moral compass.

Little, but certainly not no homophobia. One of the earliest things I found on here was a poll about whether homosexuals should be 'flaunting' their sexuality in the faces of normal people. Like heterosexuals never flaunt theirs (in just about any James Bond film, for example.)

But overall, good people and a good atmosphere.

Welcome! It seems like you're here for some of the best reasons.

Since most people make dates with others with whom they are familiar, I like to think of this as a meeting site. One establishes communication with others on the basis of what and how they think and who they are in terms of expressed values and perspectives.

Ideally, some might be worth the effort to meet. For a closer look, a 'date' might be made.

What's nice about his place is the minimal presence of juveniles (of all ages) looking for an emotional payoff by 'trolling'. Have fun!
