A number of years ago I had a nice conversation with a Professor of Comparative Religions in which I was totally open about my non-belief.
He told me that he vastly prefers conversations with people like me over those with many religious people because we've actually thought about our belief systems.
For the record, he started out Christian, but was a Buddhist when I talked to him.

My example just today on a delivery to religious right wing Trump supporters is that they started in telling me California had swayed away from god and that is why they have such bad drought. They even had Gidean bibles removed from hotels, they told me. Severe drought is god's punishment right along with the many fires. I smiled as I left and said I hoped they did not believe giant Jewish space lasers were actually starting the fires.
Why is it that people cannot view news events without comparing them to the bible in some way?

fwiw you might notice that Jesus had nothing but dis for the religious, while giving the highest praise to the “pagan” (Roman centurion) and the “atheist” (Samaritan)
