This is a powerful personal story.
In fairness I know someone saddled with this level of shame, guilt and worthlessness and it didn't involve religion. Religion isn't necessary to explain it; it is simply the most popular excuse for it. Authoritariansm and patriarchy, amplified by religion, does this to people.
