Citizens United must go. How? Constitutional Amendment. Success? Not likely.
Mass quantities of monies from non tax paying trillion dollar corporations have destroyed any chance of redeeming our democracy. Subtly beginning with Raygun. The dismantelation of the safety net unions, & marches, & strikes, & deaths secured for working people over decades of struggle.
For all the fake talk about seeking bipartisanship, mainly spoken by the Dems claiming they need it from the Repubs, the war machine is the truest form of bipartisanship, and it's lasted for over a century after the US first decided to emulate the British as imperialists. We need a third party that rejects imperialism and wars of choice, and runs candidates who really are anti-war, rather than smooth liars like Obama who claimed to be anti-war, until they got power. The things that are truly wasted in these wars of choice for empire, like Vietnam and this one, are the soldiers who die needlessly for a lie and the profits of the military contractors, as well as the civilians who also die in every one of these wars as collateral damage.
I find it annoying that the money also paid a lot of working folks’ salaries.
During and after the VN War, military contractors built plants in many states. Congresscritters don’t want to cut payrolls in their states. We have to play smarter than the contractors.
Would have been nice to see that money going to help our Veterans instead of new wars.
Some of it could have gone to Universal Healthcare and created jobs there.
It's worse. They don't just fund pro-war candidates - - They fund pro-fascism candidates, who are also utterly incompetent to address the real problems of the country. Did Trump have a single named initiative in his 2020 platform?
Biden is in the same position Obama faced. A colossal mess created by the gop. The fact that the dems helped get the gop in a positon to create the colossal mess should not be ignored.
Big corporate and the wealthy dictate policy so unless the senate can pass the voting changes we need to stop big money from influencing which candidate gets on the ballot and gerrymandering American democracy is done. IMHO
@silverotter11 I agree. Even if we sustain semi-fair voting rights, I'm afraid a fascist dictatorship is baked in at this point.
