Either god WANTS his followers to abuse children and is obsessed with sex or religion twists and perverts people. Either way it should be jettisoned from society.

I don't believe there is a god. Humans have used religion to sexually abuse children.

Have you ever considered the possibility that people are twisting and perverting religion? Religion was designed to counteract that human tendency to pervert things, but it is no match for human nature.

You have to be kidding ?

@Triphid
I’m able to consider it.

@skado Well, tie has come NOT to merely consider that it MAY BE so but to actually REALISE that it has ALWAYS been so.
Religions/Religious belief were INVENTED by Men wishing to CONTROL others and ensure that THEY had the better and best of EVERYTHING WITHOUT having to break into a sweat to get it.

@Triphid

I was talking about the other it. I’m able to consider your it too, and have often, but when I go looking for corroborating evidence... I haven’t found it. On the other hand, scientific evidence is plentiful supporting religious behavior as adaptive as well as bioculturally sourced.

Religions have so much evil that, after awhile, the abuses start to seem nearly natural (if that sounds really sick, it should). Over the millenia nothing has improved, anywhere, due to religion. At least I cannot think of one worthwhile thing that religion has given to mankind - except maybe (insert some sort of stupid humorous joke here, help me @johnnyrobish)

Religion gave us science.

@skado I don't see how. Do you mean Prometheus broght fire down from the mountain?

@Beowulfsfriend
No, I mean the earliest stirrings of science were funded by and performed in monasteries. Science grew up in the church, then specialized and went its own way. Now, like an ungrateful teenager, it’s embarrassed to acknowledge its own parents. Maybe when it is more mature, it will see the bigger picture.

@skado Kow that, and even now the catholics still have one of the largest telescopes in the world in South America. That said, science started prior to religion - flints, fire, etc. Who knows how much farther science could have grown. And, science wasn't just the European centric monasteries - China was building weapons and gunpowder; the Arabs were doing math and astronomy, look at many names of the stars. Etc.

@Beowulfsfriend
Science as we know it started in the 17th century. Religion as we know it started around the 6th century BC. Animism is not really religion, and tool use is not really science.

@skado even Wikipedia argues science started somewhere in the 3000 to 1500 BCE time.

@Beowulfsfriend
Yeah, it has “roots”. And religion’s roots go back tens of thousands of years. But what we today know of as “organized religion” is only between 6 and 10 thousand years old. And what we know of as “modern science” is only about 5 hundred years old. In every practical and meaningful way, religion shepherded science into existence. Science is rightly, historically, a specialized branch of religion.
