Well that was one native Crested Wood-pigeon who definitely needs to brush up on its land skills....LOL.
While doing my usual, having my breakfast on the front veranda and setting up the seed dishes for the birds as well, the usual arrivals of "Woodies" were lined up on the power lines awaiting their free breakfast.
Once the dishes were filled they started coming down, the usual arguments broke out over who ate first, then came the youngster from this seasons breeding.
Some seem to have their landing down pat, others still a bit wobbly on landing and then came the one who probably thinks itself to be a Fighter Pilot or something, the Speed Demon, missed the landing first time around, mind you the 'landing strip' is the entire length and width of the road out side my yard, came back for the second pass, stuffed that one up as well, so on the third, must have decided to try a new approach via the arbour/archway over my front gate, as straight run, plenty of wing room, other 'Woodies' do it with ease.
Well he/she lined up from about 50 yards away, a direct run, headed in got through the archway but AGAIN over-shot the landing, went straight through and hit my front door.
Stunned itself well and good, no injuries detectable, a few ruffled feathers and a bit of drunken staggering later and he/she was happily feed up on breakfast, perhaps, if birds have such things, feeling a wee bit embarassed as well.
Even your birds are entertaining in Australia!
Reckon that's entertaining, you should the antics, etc, these birds get up to.
Short a few marbles?
Either that or trying to get ahead withy impressing the females....LOL
