It's a major construction site right now so I don't think they will get more for it. Probably, more likely a repair bill.
Atheist could buy it and turn it into a community center and deconversion center for people coming out of religion.
It could be a fantastic indoor climbing centre
@JackPedigo EASY sell it for scrap metal and for recycling of the stone work etc, etc, some of those Gothic carving would fetch a good sized fortunate in Art Auctions.
@Triphid Don't think that would go over very well. This cathedral is one of the most iconic structures in the country.
@JackPedigo IMO, I don't cares, it IS an edifice of Religious Arrogance, Domination and Repression is it not.
Sort of disgusting to ask parishioners to help pay for their churches misdeeds especially when it involves their own children. Slowly, the noose is tightening as the Church is being financially strangled.
One the flip side we have these same sort of rabid bishops here trying to punish politicians for their failing to conform the the bishops dictates. We do have a remedy for this sort of power grab and it lies with the IRS. They really need to step up to doing their job. I've always said that we fought our revolutionary war on the adage of taxation without representation yet yet let religious institutions have representation without taxes. There is something extremely wrong with that idea.

One thing not mentioned is the the Catholic Church is hurting for fools willing to be priests. Every molestation means a priest that has disgraced the church and eventually something has to be done otherwise it will become public and the church will lose even more money. Often, priests server more than one parish and their numbers are being stretched thin. Add to the all the gays in the priesthood and this church has some deep problems. One reason why they have been moving into developing countries where the oversight is not so rigorous.
