With all the book banning, I saw one counter measure that worked at one board meeting - ask if people want to ban a book in which two sisters get their father drunk and have sex with him in an attempt to get pregnant. Then, explain to the majority of book burning fans, who don't know. that scenerio is in the bibly.
Lot & his daughters after Sodom & Gommorah where somehow his wife got offed
Those are the sisters. And beforeot and family left, Lot offered to pimp out hos daughters to the guys who wanted to f'ck the visiting angels.
I asked that same thing of a priest and was told that Jesus took care of that and to ignore the "old testament" and focus on what Jesus says. That was fifty years ago. The die-hards will always justify their stance.
@Garban That was part of it. I was thirteen at the time and a lot of things they were preaching didn't make sense, so I quit. I became a non-practicing Christian and eventually gave the whole thing up naturally. Other than weddings and christenings and one midnight mass (that was to get my mother-in-law to stop guilt tripping my husband), I have not attended a church.
Even when I attended Al-Anon, I changed the serenity prayer to I give myself serenity to accept the things I cannot change. Courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference. I was surprised that no one there had a problem with that and even some of them did the same.
Just the New Testament then. That's the one that starts with a teenage girl getting impregnated without her consent and culminates with the central character being tortured to death followed by all the dead in the cemeteries rising up and roaming the streets.
@MattHardy I was going to say sounds like a good sci-fi plot and then I get to the end of the comments - yea, I'll wait for the director's cut.
