Any thoughts on the emerging details of the sidewalk killer in Toronto. In a world that preaches tolerance and equality, is it surprising that groups like Incel exist or is misogyny still rampant?
My first thought when I heard about this group us, do they somehow think this is the way to attract women? It reminds me of when a guy approached and you say politely that you aren’t interested, and then they start calling you s bitch and worse. Like, yeah, well now I’m totally interested. NOT
There is always backlash when marginalized people make new steps in gaining equality. That's why we have Trump right after Obama. Men have had power over women forever. When people have an unfair advantage and get called out they get defensive and fight back. Hopefully it will even out somewhat but there will still always be people who dislike other types for whatever reasons or think they have more rights or power.
My main thoughts are, 'freaks' and, 'really that happened in Canada?'
I probably shouldn't say what I'm thinking. I'm sure most of these men are harmless and just venting their frustration. On the other hand, the thought of pathetic assholes who promote violence against anyone angers me. I'm curious if these groups wouldn't be a good place to search for serial killers.
I keep reminding myself we aren't that far along in evolution.
There's still a lot of nastiness we haven't gotten past yet - if ever we will.
But our ability to think in abstracts exceeds our ability to realize those thoughts, and we suffer that deficiency.
I think the problem is we are all at different stages of evolution and some are the beginnings of their own species.
Evolution is too slow....
Too bad there isn't a way to speed it up some...
Oh...wait....?
Incel a bunch of arseholes who can't get laid so decide its women's fault ....what has this got to do with tolerance and equality?
Sex is always available. All one needs to do to get laid is save enough cash to pay a prostitute for their services.
These jack wagons are just pissed off that they don't look like Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie and can't walk in to a bar and pick up their dream date on que.
Well, news flash for these assholes: Most people don't look like Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie and most people can't walk in to a bar and pick up their dream date on que.
The majority of the population of the world needs to be constructive and figure out what works for them. That's just the way it is. And going through life being consumed by rage resolves nothing.
Anyone who has a problem with the way things are can take it up with god. But from what I've heard, the dude hasn't picked up his phone in a few thousand years.
IMO it shows that these men objectify women and don’t think of them as equals....they are seen as something to “use” for their own pleasure.
@Pamela3224 ahh right. I get what you mean now
One of the problems with the Interwebs is that it allows these loons to organize and self-perpetuate. I was a little surprised by it and reading about the history of Incel, and how it started as a gender-neutral group and then evolved is scary. But at the core, we have a lot of angry people in our world and in many ways they've been empowered by modern communications technology and the politics of hate.
Just posted this in another thread on the same subject:
Incels are whinny little bitches. Every single one of 'em. There are options. Going through life filled with anger and hate solves nothing.
The secret to a happy life is to make lemonade out of the lemons which fate throws in your basket. If I could offer these people one bit of good advice, it would be this: If the rules don't work for you, then play by a different set of rules and stop expecting the rules to be changed in your favor. Because they're never going to be.
Please check before you post. We have at least 3 posts on this today.Thanks. Its a sick group.
are there post quotas per topic? If that's a rule, is it written down somewhere.. like a "Agnostic.com Bible"?
No we just don't want to repeat posts.
@sassygirl3869
Then tell the web devs to cook it into the system instead of expecting uses to search old posts.
Like I said in a different post here, it has many similarities to the École Polytechnique Massacre in Montréal in 1989.

The whole thing is very disturbing.
Exactly and that was 30 years ago, so it’s not a NEW thing.
@Nickbeee and @Pamela3224 if this is in fact an act against women, it demonstrates that the society where it happens women as empowered. I can definitely say that is true of Québec and about Canada. Our Prime Minister, after all, has made an effort to split his cabinet equally along gender lines to reflect what Canada should represent.
I think as the violence in all of our cultures continues to rise, more of these little people with an axe to grind with one group of people (ie. women) or another will come up. It is a sad thing, but I see an increase not a decrease. I would say that the person here is a sad sad person, who should be kicked off the planet.
It's not remotely surprising. The world isn't preaching tolerance and equality either. Not even close.
I feel we are here in Canada, for the most part.
@Pamela3224 Too bad Canada isn't the whole world.
There have been 3 posts on this subject prior to yours. In order to eliminate duplicate posts, please search your topic before posting. Agnostic.com asks this on the "post topic" page.
This was already brought to my attention in an earlier post. A little ironic lol I understand the need to keep the threads clean but if I have to search through all the posts before making a commeny I don’t think this is the place for me to express myself.
The Toronto mass murderer, “incel” or whatever he was, should face the legal consequences of his actions. He’s about as miserable and as pathetic as any lowlife can be. But I just can’t support government curbs on speech, especially hateful speech like the speech that some people may think may have “triggered” his rampage. If hatefut speech is not protected, we have no freedom of speech. Hateful speech is bad, but having no freedom is speech is worse. In America we know the value of freedom of speech, a core principle that has guided our nation despite some very dark periods like the McCarthy era. And If extremist religious fanatics can spew hateful messages at will despite the proven bloody track record of their doctrines and our republic still stands, we should be able to confront and neutralize weasels or incels without a thought police.
spoken as a true American but there is such a thing as hate speech in Canada and it is regulated. This crime was in Canada.
@ArturoS Again, spoken as an American but speaking as a Canadian, I disagree. Hate speech can be defined and we have done that in Canada.

I support health care as a human right, 1 year maternity leave and severe gun rights in the USA (does that sound hollow to you?)
Incel?
Yeah - it's some 'men's group' for those who are 'Involuntarily Celebate'. Also know as a bunch of jerks.
(I'm trying to watch my language - you have no idea how much men like this piss me off).
