@TheMiddleWay just posted this from Pew. Not sure exactly where the meme creator is getting that figure. It's not a 60 point gap, it's a 17 point gap. I'm just not a fan of giving a false sense of security. e.g. 'Oh, 80% of people want abortion to be legal? I probably don't need to worry then, it'll all work out.'

Good point. More recent polls put the percentage supporting abortion in the first trimester at over 60%. That's a hefty-enough majority to be called a landslide if it were a presidential election. In any case, what is occurring now can only be called minority rule.

The number also depends a lot on exactly what question is asked. An bigger majority (70%) say that the decision should be left up to a woman and her doctor. And only a small minority (24%) say that abortion should not be regulated by law.

@Flyingsaucesir Oh, that's really interesting. I'd really like to know if all of those questions were on each survey, or they had different respondents. If they were, it shows how illogically people evaluate questions. The number of people that said legal should be at least equal to woman & her doctor.

@TheMiddleWay Oh for sure. The results from the polls they took make no sense because of how the questions were worded (and because people are kinda dumb).

@TheMiddleWay Oh, and I wasn't saying I didn't know where the numbers from your meme came from. I was talking about the 80% in the OP and used your post to wonder how it's possible.

@TheMiddleWay @ChestRockfield, I think we should keep our focus on the fact that a sizeable majority think a woman should be able to decide for herself, and that objections to choice are largely based on religious belief, and we supposedly have separation of church and state. All this SHOULD add up to legal abortion.

It's not going to happen soon enough to help those who need abortions, but my prediction, as it has been for years, is that if abortion is outlawed with this court decision, it will result in tons of women suddenly becoming one-issue voters, on the side of the Dems because of abortion. The same thing happened to the Dems with the South after civil rights laws were passed in congress. The bigger problem is that, with all the voter restriction laws being passed by Repub-controlled states that will suppress the voting of colored people, the increased votes of women for Dems may not make any difference in who controls congress or the WH... The Repubs have been preparing for this for quite some time, and the timing of the SC finally overturning Roe v. Wade is probably because they now feel they have the voting laws rigged enough that a female backlash against them will not matter enough to change who controls the federal government.

We shall see...hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

I really hope this causes a huge change in voting habits.
But even if it does, it's gonna be 8-12 months minimum of abortion bans.

This could be a great stimulis 🤞
