Oh shit and here was I thinking that I might a get few days of relative peace and quiet.
Decided to get the fire started early because,
a) the thermometer shows that it is just 16 degrees Celsius outside and my old and somewhat battered joints are aching from the cold air.
b) So, fire is up and running, I've made my self a nice fresh hot cup of coffee, got a few biscuits, cookies to you lot from across the big pond (LOL), and sitting here enjoy a rest after first stripping the bed then doing 2 basket loads of laundry and hanging them out this morning and then getting asked by the lady next door if would mind helping by changing the washer on a leaking faucet in her kitchen.
c) So, biscuits and coffee in hand, fire burning nicely, rooms warming up well, I decided to check my e-mails etc, etc.
Just get settled down and about 20 minutes later there's a knock on the front door, openn it up and there stands a Fireman in uniform who asks if my house is on fire as he has had a telephone report of excessive smoke coming from my property.
I show him that my wood burning heater/fire IS lit and the kind of fuel that it is burning, I show him where the chimney is and he notes the very faint amounts of smoke coming from it and that, in his opinion, the height of the chimney ABOVE the roof is excellent and easily allows for any smoke to dissipate long before reaching the ground, give my little fireplace the OKAY, apologises for disturbing and disrupting my day and as he departs says, " You can be even money that the person who made this ridiculous complaint will be hearing from me and will not be hearing the last of this"
Anyone care to hazard a guess where the false alarm call may have originated from perchance?.
