You can probably count Roberts in there with the other five, but they won't need his vote anyway to abolish Roe.
Tru dat. We shall see soon enough where Roberts is.
The morality on the subject is subjective, because most people have varied opinions on the issue. People screaming men should have no opinion on the subject aren't helping either. Imagine if we applied the same logic to race disabilities or anything else. Saying men shouldn't have reproduction rights is misandry, and silly because every pregnancy requires a man's seed. Abortion in general should remain legal but with restrictions on when you can and cannot receive one based on science.
The last thing you said made sense, but the first part, not so much. The "people screaming men should have no say" is a straw-man argument, set up to divert attention from the main issue.
@Flyingsaucesir I'm making the stawman? Or the statement is arguing a stawman? It's just my opinion that not including someone in law making based on their biological sex is fundamentally wrong and the opposite of progress.
@Tejas No, I'm saying that there are not a lot of people saying that men should have no say in matters of reproduction. It's a trope invented by the political right to claim victimhood, again, as they so often do. It's exactly like their cries of "cancel culture." A straw man, a red herring.
@Flyingsaucesir I disagree. A majority of people on this site say a man shouldn't have any say on the issue whatsoever.
@Tejas I'm not seeing that.
I am seeing people opine that a bunch of men (justices, priests, politicians, etc.) should not dictate that a woman should carry an embryo to term.
Maybe we should take a poll?
@Flyingsaucesir let er rip
The majority of Americans believe:
Abortion should be legal very early in the pregnancy.
Abortion should be illegal very late in the pregnancy unless the mother's health is at risk or the unborn child will suffer severe disabilities and health problems.
It should be easy to pass legislation to that effect, but the issue is being held hostage by extremists on both sides.
Very early = 1st 3 months
Very late = last 3 months
The problem is that a state like California, with 37 million people, only has 2 senators, while the Dakotas, with only 1.6 million people, have 4 senators.
@Flyingsaucesir I agree 100%
Very early = 1st 3 months.
Very late = last 3 months.
So the deadline should fall somewhere in-between. I personally believe 5 months makes the most sense because that's when you could induce labor and the fetus would have about a 50/50 chance of surviving.
Anywhere from 4 months to 6 months makes the most sense to me. I think that's true for people in California and people in the Dakotas.
@BD66 Hey, we agree on something! Cool!
I was only using the Dakotas as an example of how this country is set up for minority rule.
What we need is equal representation!
If they could just put this framework in place across the 50 states:
Abortions are legal up to X months (where X could be 3, 4, 5, or 6)
After X months they are legal if the mother's health is at risk or the unborn child will suffer severe disabilities and health problems.
Alabama and Mississippi could vote for 3.
California could vote for 6.
And the issue could be resolved.
It's frustrating how something that the majority of Americans agree on could be such a mess for the past 50 years.
