I've had little communication with other skeptics and freethinkers, so I am exceedingly hyped about Agnostic.com. I assume that most of us are avid readers and active researchers. I find myself dismayed when I try to have educated conversations with people around me and all they can do is repeat "What I heard was..." Is there something about humans that causes most to not want to question, think for themselves, and learn?

It is always a distinct minority of people who question, think for themselves, and learn. The rest just make a decision which competing authority figure to follow.

If you mean about religion, not any more. Don't have time to reason with unreasonable people.

Yes. It's called indoctrination.

Yea and verily! It's great to find a forum where the intelligence is a little higher and conversations exude a little more veritas. As to your question... frankly... thinking is work, and most people are too busy... or work enough that they don't care to do it in their free time. I've always found education to be an optimal choice for a way to pass free time.. not everyone shares our enthusiasm. My challenge is on the other end of the spectrum, I need to make sure I don't spend over much time in study and attend to physically creative and stimulating efforts as well (neglect is also a problem). It is comfortable and easy to dwell exclusively in my cerebrum. I'm supposed to be running my weed whacker right now.. lol.
