According to a number of News reports this morning, the newly elected Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese refused to use the bible to be sworn in ti office but went with giving his word of honour instead.
A victory for the Non-religious methinks.
Some countries are getting the message we need to get rid of extremist conservatives. When or even will we get that message.
If that be so then when are United States of Absurdity going to take their first tentative step then?
@Triphid We took that step in 2016.
@JackPedigo Yes, I agree, a backwards step.
It could be. I've been following some of this and you might be better off politically now. I'm seeing in America that Biden is being blamed for everything. Pandemic, inflation, gas prices, etc. People need to learn that a change of leadership does not change blame. On the other hand, soon we will have $6 USD gas prices and people saying that they cannot afford to go to work. I look at all of this maybe hitting us worldwide. Not over yet and it will not be pretty.
The Murdoch, Turdock imo, owned Press started on Albanese with the almost same crap reports here as early as last Sunday morning when the welcome defeat of Happy, Clappy Jesus Chappy Morriscum and his Party of Thieves and Scumbags was announced as an almost certainty so that seems to be the good media -wise these days does it not?
People expect the president to be able to take care of everything. Don't know what changed when tRump took over except the he appealed to a certain mindset with stupid that wanted to blame everyone else except their own habits. When I lived in Germany in the 70's and 80' gas was already much higher and even Canada had prices more than that before the pandemic. $6 is barely keeping up with inflation. We have become spoiled and want to drive gas guzzlers with no sense of guilt. Oil is a limited resource and the peak was around 2000. We Americans continue to live in a dream world and refuse to accept any culpability in our habits.
Or arguments that saying "So help me god" is a required part of an oath of office or testifying in court in the US.
It's been a long time since I was asked to "swear" that I was going to testify truthfully, the wording has been "affirm" for many years.
Anthony Albanese, son of a single mother, now 31st. Prime Minister of Australia and Leader of the Australian Labor Party, also an Agnostic.
However in his victory speech he did talk about his mother looking down at him.
I keep hearing about ' merica being founded on Christian principles, but even in the past there were men and women who didn't aspire to nonsense. Thomas Paine was one, and I certainly believe Ben Franklin was another.
Ah yes, another one of my f-ups. I was talking about cognitive people verses the type who have paid some back-woods university for a degree.
@Diogenes Well rest assured ALL of my Degrees came from
ACTUAL Studies through ACTUAL and RECOGNISED Universities in Australia.
I also note via your avatar/screen persona that you seem to have stopped short of the title that has always been used in conjunction with your choice, i.e. Diogenes the Cynic.
May one inquire as you reasoning behind such an omission IF, of course there is one.
Any of your fellow Australians losing their minds over it? I can't imagine the fallout if a high ranking politician did that in the US.
No idea but it is NOT the first as far as I know.
When our first and sadly short term female P.M. was sworn in she too refuse to swear on the Holey Babble because she was and still is an Atheist.
Plus, IF you check the history behind the DEPOSED Prime Minister you will find the he is a fully fledged member of the Hillsong, or as I call it Hillpong, Church/community and even the religio-tards seemed to have voted to give him the D.C.M. ( Don't Come Monday) order.
Perhaps, just PERHAPS it is high time for the United States of Absurdity to borrow a page or 3 from the book of the Australian way?
There seems to have been not a murmur in Australia. There were some eyebrows raised slightly when Australia's first female PM was sworn in as an atheist, so today's silence fits the mould.
