Ukraine is getting with the program and banning art & books now based on...........nationality. Tolstoy's "War and Peace" for example.
Woke way to go Ukraine.

Banning any literature is wrong. If the cancel culture doesn't like some books, just don't read them, problem solved.
exactly
Banning the propaganda of the people who are raining bombs down on your head does not seem like an unnatural reaction. And in light of the death and destruction, it is a minor thing, of little significance. Which begs the question, why would you choose to focus on that right now? How come you are not posting about Russians bombing Ukraine into the dark ages? How did you manage to end up with such backward priorities? Why are your posts always so effing lame?
Point. Pity the 70 odd countries that have had bombs rained on them via a certain country hasn't cancelled all their cultural influences
The first victim of war is truth, alway, and always on both sides, sadly.
And of course Putin invaded Ukraine, giving the excuse that he was starting a crusade against fascism. Which is not very clever, since if there is anything in the world which promotes fascism, on both sides again, it is starting a war, especially a long war based on intolerance.
Given that Putin has been portraying Ukraine as being full of nazis, banning Tolstoy seems rather reasonable.
Silly use of "woke" though.
Anytime I hear someone using that word as a pejorative, I dismiss them.
You know, just for being a snowflake who can't hack reality.
Politically Correct as an insult has too many syllables and is harder to spell. And they prefer to be asleep?
I do not ever really agree with banning or censorship, but I can have some empathy in this case.
Putin is trying to erase the entire Ukrainian identity and restore the Russian empire before his death, which cannot be soon enough.
@BufftonBeotch You can't cherry pick which books may be burnt.
Banning historic works of art because of current political ideology is the perfect example of "woke" PC bollocks imo.
Yes it happened in 2015. Books that are spreading hateful propaganda.
Happening also USA 2022
@puff Yeah, now right-wing extremists want to ban all "woke" school textbooks that honestly treat the sordid side of American history. Every few years we hear about another attempt to supplant the science of biological evolution with some religious horse shit. These impulses to turn away from truth are not only pathetic and stupid, but also corrupt and dangerous.
As for Ukrainians banning Russian propaganda, who can blame them? If War And Peace somehow ended up on the list, that's unfortunate, but not the end of the world. Tolstoy is kinda wordy anyway.
@puff the two countries are at war. Many people take sides when the war occurs. Perhaps you should investigate the human rights policies of both countries and decide for sure which one you want to side with. I feel I have done that and I am pro Ukraine even though they are not perfect.
By the way my understanding is that War and Peace etc have not been banned except when they're written in the Russian language. Ukraine has encouraged Ukrainians to adopt the Ukraine language for many years. I think this is an effort to encourage the settlers from Russia to actually buy in to the nation of Ukraine.
