Well I'm not happy!!!!
I just found out that some functions of my smart car "expire" after the intial 3 years and I'll need to pay a monthly rate for:
My remote keyfob expires???
It will cost me a two or three hundred dollars a year to continue these "amenities" that were included when I bought the car. I sure don't remember anyone mentioning that they would expire in 3 years. Just another way for corporate America to bleed the consumer dry.
This is how it's gonna be, folks.
I think you need to check further...the remote key, for example, i believe your remote's Batteries will expire...change them for the cost of a new battery (<$3.00) by watching a YouTube video...dead easy......
Use your phone's GPS for guidance. My "burner" phone from Walmart (cost $79, no contract, no monthly fees) has Google GPS with voice guidance.
I have no idea what Connected Care is as you didn't mention your make/model.
But I seriously doubt they will refuse to accept your car for repairs, even if you (gasp!) have to call them......
No they actually said that the remote functions will no longer be operational, such as locking and unlocking your car and trunk remotely.
If you ask me, cars have too much technology these days. I don't know what half the doodads on my car do, so I probably wouldn't miss them. And I certainly can use my phone for GPS... but the connected care monitors the car and notifies the driver if anything is not working correctly... transmission, brakes, tire pressure, etc.
Good to know. Thanks for sharing that. I'm in the market for a newer car than my failing car, and I likely won't be able to afford a smart car, but good to know that some features might expire. A key fob? I would think that's not ethical -- maybe they mean remote access of some other kind? If they really mean the key fob, that is highway robbery!

Why every car I have bought lately has as little electronics as I can possibly get. Given how much trouble I have with just a simple computer glitching, I would rather not depend on one to help me drive my car.
Boo hoo. Did you not have the opportunity to research your purchase before making it?
Who could anticipate something like that? I'm sure it was buried somewhere in the paperwork. It would be nice if they mentioned it as a courtesy.
You could be more courteous too.
PS This is another example of things the republicans will complain about (as we do) but it is GOP removal of consumer protections, deregulation and other policies that are causing so much angst today. Republicans just do not get it.
The Republicans get it, ...in the form of contributions.
@nogod4me The republicans I'm speaking of are the little people who support trump , think reagan and bush were fabulous presidents and refuse to get educated. Like many of my neighbors and folks living here in eastern WA.
I would contact the dealer where you bought the car and state that you do not recall anything about the 3 year expiration date of these functions - be nice but firm you are NOT pleased. If you say nothing you get nothing. Expressing yourself may lead to an extension at no cost or a better rate than was offered.
I already put in a call to the dealership customer relations guy and was told he no longer works there. I wonder why
