Alarming news about covid reinfections. More dangerous then thought.

Most everyone I know who has gotten it again has expressed surprise at getting it after being vaxxed and twice boosted. I have to remind them that the vaccine doesn't stop them from getting it, it just reduces the likelihood that they'll die from it. That said, three of the people who have had repeat infections this past month have been much sicker, and for a longer time, than they were the first time they had it.
I am not surprised that we are now dealing with a variant that can dodge some of the immune response. There was, and is always the chance that mutations might provide some new advantage to the virus, and there is still opportunity for the virus to further mutate into something even more dangerous, but I think much of the populace does not believe that. I wonder if, had we not let this thing run rampant in the first place, would we be dealing with the current situation. I kinda think it was still going to get us, just maybe more slowly.
Yeah okay, please tell me how these people are getting infected "3 or more times"??????
Either they have seriously compromised immune systems from some other cause, which would of course leads to the higher deaths noted in the article, or live with/are idiots, or perhaps are institutionalized for, as I noted, other chronic problems?
I find the VA is (as only to be expected, sadly) dealing 99% of the time with Very iIl people
I'm lucky that my age and the work I do mostly keeps me away from the general public, but a lot of younger people don't have that luxury, and they're back at work dealing where masking isn't always possible. I know someone who has it whose husband works in a school, and I was surprised he wasn't also home quarantining when Chris got it, but it turns out the school discourages testing when a family member gets ill because if they aren't tested, then they don't have to quarantine. People getting it three or more times in circumstances like that is easy to imagine.
