FYI about balancing on one leg:

"People who are middle-aged or older and can’t balance on one leg for 10 seconds are more likely to die in the next seven years than those who can do it, according to a study out this week."

And:

"Most of those who were over 70 were unable to complete the test."

I'm almost 70 and had no problem going 10 seconds and far beyond. Guess I'll live forever.

That's an interesting way to gage body strength. I have joint hypermobility that interferes with my ability to balance which is just as well, because I wouldn't want that clock ticking away in my head. On the other hand, it feels great to be building up my leg strength again after my knee surgery earlier this year so I get what they mean about that.

@Gwendolyn2018 That's a good point. It's amazing what we get accustomed to, and don't always realize what it could signal - or that it could be helped/fixed. It's good that you're so in tune with your body.

At sixty five, I managed thirty seconds and then got bored.

But then I had a bright idea. Why not stand on one leg, and read Agnostic. com at the same time !

I teach exercise classes for the elderly and I include balance exercises. We use a chair and its there to hold onto if the participants aren't confident with their balance. I see that most of the participants do have trouble with their balance, I tell them to do these exercises at home too

@Gwendolyn2018 That's normal, I also teach quick reflex exercises for stopping a fall, it helps.

At 68, I can stand on one leg for longer than 10 seconds. On both legs.

Some of us might die from the fall we take while tryng to balance on one leg. I used to be a jock but now I'm an old man with neuropothy.

Well, I guess that will be helpful for budgeting for the future.
