Just curious.... Why do so many people take a picture of themself in a car? I like the color of your seatbelts and all.... But as far as background goes, a door post Just doesn't cut it. Please feel free to type very loudly at me now.
I've spent years of my life trying to find the answer to this question (it's important!) And I'm still not convinced I know for sure, but until a greater revelation comes along... I assume it's a two part phenomenon. First part is that it produces a fairly flattering portrait because the harsh, direct overhead light is blocked by the roof, but strong, diffuse daylight is bounced in from all the side windows, including a bit from the back for some rim-lighting of the hair. This is actually somewhat similar to a professional studio portrait set-up, without the fuss and expense.
The second part is that, since it looks pretty good, other people see it and want a good look too, so it becomes a naturally self-replicating internet meme, without people having any conscious knowledge of why they are doing it. What works, gets repeated. In other words: evolution.
Same goes for the duck-face. WTH is with the pursed lips? Is that supposed to be sexy now? It's a major turn-off for me, that's just my opinion.
Likewise. What's even worse... Women over 30 who do this. I've recently been mildly pursued by an old high school acquaintance. In 80-90% of her selfies on FB, she's doing duck face. She's 48. Total turnoff. Makes her look stupid.

Says the man with a prancing horse on a shield?
I took my profile picture while sitting in my car last week. I was waiting a little bit before going in to an interview that I was a bit early for. The purpose of the picture taking was to send it to a coworker to make sure that I looked presentable. It came out well, so I kept it.
Because I'm often waiting on someone or thing - in the car.
So I'll do a pic.
I don't like selfies at all.
I loathe the word.
@Donotbelieve When it comes to selfies on here, it's not that I don't trust you, I can't say I fully trust this platform and many other similar apps, especially with the recent data leaks on Facebook. Once a photo of yourself makes its way onto the internet, it pretty much stays there, and I've done my best to avoid that. With that said though, down the line perhaps I would consider messaging you a photo of myself, I think that would be a better option for me, and in the months ahead I'll be attending a local city fair so I could probably get a friend to take a photo of me.
The backgrounds aren't supposed to be the focal point.
Unless you are a person with an eye for detail.
@Holysocks I am. I've had plenty of art training. If a background ends up being more noticable than the actual subject, it's not doing its job properly.
I figure the car is not only good lighting, but also that is probably just after doing all their hair and make-up in their house. This is the final product before they go out and it might get messed up...lol
Arkansas was the first place I was ever accused of behind dead. No offence, but experience tells me to not believe you.
@Holysocks, How do you get "accused of behind dead"? Were you behind some dead guy? You know what, maybe I really do not want to know...What ever floats your boat...lol
I used to say the same.
I'm curious, why don't you explain what is so interesting about your photos? Why is your background better in your photos than the interior of a car?
Well.... Sometimes you just have to take a pic while going through a drive through damn it! Lol
Hahaha here's my car.
I posilutely appreciate and love your choice for a screen name!
I rarely take car selfies. I don't drive. Lol.
That makes two of us!
@Holysocks Cool.
You've heard about why men want big guns or big cars, right? It's the same thing. Sort of saying "Sure, my John Thomas isn't big, but look at this car. That totally makes up for it!"
I guess its when they are alone or feel most comfortable or there posing lol.
