"...Since the 1990s, large numbers of Americans have left Christianity to join the growing ranks of U.S. adults who describe their religious identity as atheist, agnostic or “nothing in particular.” This accelerating trend is reshaping the U.S. religious landscape, leading many people to wonder what the future of religion in America might look like...."

Modeling the Future of Religion in America
If recent trends in religious switching continue, Christians could make up less than half of the U.S. population within a few decades

I'm an agnostic because all religions require cognitive dissonance which I simply cannot accept. I wish all the Left/Right would wake up and realize that the Libertarian concept of government/religion is truly the only way we can all start to get along. (the principle of non-aggression) The left wants to push their ideals just as much as the right wants to push their ideals. Last time I checked, I didn't contract with either side to tell me how to live my life or conduct my personal business. Yes, there must be law & order in our business dealings but freedom means allowing others to do whatever the hell they want so long as it doesn't cause harm or restrict another citizen from practicing their freedoms as they see fit. Why don't we all just practice what we believe by managing our own affairs within our own family structure. If ya want an abortion..get one. If you want to be Woke/Gay/Trans/Etc...be it. If you wanna have 10 flags and a general Lee confederate 01 dodge charger car....why not as long as your not enslaving other human beings. Just takes a little common sense and the ability to stop allowing everyone to offend. Way too often it is the offended person who is allowing themselves to be offended because they gave their power away to another person. If someone wants to believe in God...Allah....The great spaghetti monster...so be it...It's your illusion to have but that doesn't mean everyone else has to share in it
I agree with much of this, on a political level, and have used the like reaction on it. Still, not to take a dig at your post in isolation, but in response to many of the posts in this thread and others: In my view there is a deeper principle here, which is that the results of the Pew survey efforts speak to personal beliefs and religion, not to views on politics and government philosophy. That is, arguably, they speak to folks' most deeply held views. I think that these views are, in a sense, arguably more important than, and different from, government and political views. So I have found it striking that so many of the responses here go straight to political discussion.
Again, I do agree with a decent amount of what you've written, from a government philosophy point of view, and how we can relate it to these survey results, but I want to add that I think there is a much deeper way to look at these survey results, and related issues, that has nothing to do with government philosophy and politics.
These clowns know they’re disappearing…….which is why this so called ‘Christian Nationalism’ will get worse.
To believe in, "nothing in particular", says to the world, yu unz ain't gots enuf peenut buter between the ears to think about anything, other than your next bet on the basket ball score.
I refuse to dignify a theist by even acknowledging that he is there, let alone arguing with him/her.
There are no answers to some questions: "How many Big Bangs have there been?" "What was before that?" " "Has some cognitive entity caused all this?" "How SMALL is the universe compared to whatever else there is?" When man has 'all the answers', he should be able to create his own universe. That is why I am an agnostic.
I hope this is true. In these parts, though (Kentucky), Christianity (or what passes for it) seems as strong and obnoxious as ever.
As has been said ad nauseum on these boards, even if the Christians become a minority of the population, they will still dominate the politics of America..
Even as a minority they will want to dominate American politics simply because they are fighting for us to become their "Christian Nation." This alone means they will always be lying.
When you are required to wear a turban- maybe you will realize that things have just gotten worse!
Hopefully this trend will not only continue but also accelerate.
