My HOUSE has mold. Are you suggesting I live in a tent?

@MizJ I don't know what to suggest except to watch a lot of DIY videos, like on youtube or whatever, and join forums where people in disaster recovery mode talk about this stuff. I wish I could be more helpful, but I'm already overwhelmed by all I have to do to my own house to sell it quick (financial imperative). I don't know where I'm going to live either.

The homeowner's insurance market here is awful. If a roof is more than 15 years old you get cancelled. Hurricane deductibles differ from other claims and are MUCH higher in most if not all cases. My biggest concern is that the insurance company and the roofing company are going to point their fingers at each other and draw this out. My insurer cautioned/threatened me on the phone today about preventing further damage. I wanted to say, "Hey bitch you are welcome to come here and figure out how to keep the rain out!". Rain is forecast tomorrow afternoon. I have some small tarps and a few tubes of caulk. Wish me luck.

@MizJ Man... when I hear people around me whine about petty bs and get all up in arms, I remind them how bad things could really get and to have a little humility and compassion. It doesn't always help because it's hard to shame people anymore. I'm sorry for what you all are going through.

@Organist1 Roof is 1 year old. The inspector and the company both fucked up.10K for a piss poor roof job.

@MizJ Unscrupulous contractors are such a problem. I hope you have a good lawyer, or some way to get them to repair it.

@Organist1 That problem is about to become even worse. We will be inundated with construction workers and roofers from other states. It's not unusual that post-hurricane half of those roofing jobs fail inspection.

@MizJ Disasters attract vultures. It's horrible. Would you like me to ask my friend Edna for contractor recommendations? You probably know all the good ones, too, but they must be busy 24/7.

@Organist1 Many thanks. I think what I may do for the short term is do some of the demo work myself. First because finding honest help will be so difficult. Second because that way I can see with my own eyes exactly where the lumber is water stained, etc. When the shady guys show up and think I am a clueless woman I look them in the eye and say, "16 on center. Get the fuck out." No joke. I have done it before when they talk to me as if I were a stupid child. Most start out with asking to speak to my husband. I always talk to them in my garage where there are power tools, rarely do they figure out that I am the one that uses them. I will take plenty of photos before and after. The main concern is getting out all the moldy drywall and insulation, stopping the leak(s), looking for any scary looking structural damage. Once it is safe I will have time on my side.
