U.S. "urges" Mexico not to buy Chinese Nuctech scanners for the border because they don't meet the United States' standards for quality control.
"We assess that Nuctech very likely has a close and enduring relationship with the Chinese Government to advance Nuctech's business interests and develop screening and detection systems on behalf of the Chinese Government," the US wrote. "Its equipment, is likely to have deficiencies in detection capabilities, which may create opportunities for exploitation by the Chinese Government."
The US urging to Mexico included the warning such a purchase by Mexico
"could inhibit our shared commitment to facilitate commerce"
Is it just me or is that not a million miles away from Trumps infamous statement to another world leader
“I would like you to do us a favor though,”
Not the same as trump at all. This is an open and above board appeal by the nation, or administration in charge. Trump was looking for political fodder. Whether or not one agrees with the US position is another thing and that can be debated.
Since when do "appeals" need to be backed up by threats of trade sanctions?
If the USA do not want Mexico trading with China why not simply offer the Mexicans a better deal themselves?
