What's your suggestion for getting people to skip church on Sunday? Do atheists put forth any Sunday events to compete with church? I want churches to shrivel and die like old weeds.
That's an interesting comment...you want churches to shrivel and die? Why do you care? I don't go to church...have no need for it, but if someone does and they get some comfort from going, why would you care? Just sayin...
One reason I hope churches burn to the ground is they undermine public education and offer inadequate, misleading alternatives . If you disagree, I point to evidence like the flu tries of Philippines, and Mexico, where the Pope was highly influential. When america degenerates to the point where there are armed thugs stopping you on the interstate and demanding money (common in Mexico because many men lack the education to find more advanced opportunities) you can thank the churches, and your own lack of will to oppose them
@ronodokk People lack educational opps because of the church...I don't think so....there are a lot of reasons why people aren't getting adequate education here in America but church is waaay down the list. As for violence, easy access to weapons here in America as well as the poliferation of drugs in our society will bring us close to Mexico in that sense if we don't take some steps to stop the out of control gun culture. Your argument is not convincing to me at all, in fact I totally reject it.
Not my mission in life to convert no one to whatever. If they want to go to church on Sunday then have at it, the only thing I have always asked to all my friend and relatives is to please do not drag me with you....and when things get ugly (yeah, there is always the one that is going to save my soul) then I have to pull the big guns like "trust me, you DON'T want me there)
I cannot think of any reason to stop others from doing what they want to do about religion... until it affects me. I DO support removing tax-exempt status, because that DOES affect me. But if they like to attend church they're welcome to it. They're already losing supporters in most areas.
Multiple orgasms Saturday night and well into Sunday morning helps change the focus. ?
Go camping on the weekend.....Have brunch at your house and invite them.....Ask for help on some project that for some reason must be done on Sunday morning. Drive a hundred miles to visit some interesting site and get an early start and take them with you. DO NOT MENTION RELIGION AT ALL.
why try to change them? Isn't that exactly what they are doing and part of what we object to? Let them follow their own path. Lead by example. When others see by action that they don't need religion to be ethical, moral, or to survive, they will start thinking for themselves instead of being led around like sheep. Just be the best that you can be---that's the most powerful action there is
Don't try to change people is what many say. When religion was more powerful, the religious burned atheists at the stake. Religious people are still violent and will do what ever they feel they can get away with to undermine us. Ted Cruzs dad was quoted saying atheists in america should be put in concentration camps
I, and many of my friends, chose to go for a run/walk/workout on a Sunday, actually almost every day as a way to commune with who we are and where we fit in this universe. Feeling the essence of one's active body is one of THE basic truths we can all appreciate. Enjoying WHERE we are, in THE moment, as we use all of what our body can offer is one way to savor our place in this universe.
Not worth your time or energy to prevent others from going to church. Religion attempts to control people, and frequently succeeds. Don't get caught up in the same behavior. You can't make people think. We just do the best we can as individuals.
I hear ya... I don't have a clue about changing a person. I can say I think it's all man made fear to control and take people's money and property. Theres going to have to be an alien space ship come down and tell them it's all crap.
I got so much done in my yard today … when the neighbors took off to church, I was sleeping in ..when they returned, my place looked even better! I’ve always felt just being out and about … or as the Damone on Fast Times said, “...act like wherever you are, that's the place to be. "Isn't this great?"”
I also like to shop at places open on Sundays, kinda my way of thanking them Can’t think of anything we could do as an organization, yet … so let’s just keep our “Isn’t this great (even while packing bags of barkdust)” face on - they can’t help but notice
No No No. Its a secret to be discovered on their part like it was on theirs. This is a moment that has to come up and smack you between the eyes like the soccer ball or basket, baseball or slip on the trail you never saw coming. We do not preach to the Choir. When they get tired of hearing the same old song and Text and Verse from the same book that has over 5000 mistakes within its translation is what they have to come to grips with.
This is not an easy path but telling one to read History is a very recommended approach to dealing with this. To this I will add to be careful because many fundamentalists have very limited academic achievements which is what makes their choice of Religion something to carefully ponder and reconsider.
