I was reading an article on Paul McCartney. He talked about his love of record shops. He talked about finding this single in a shop in Jamaica. The writers are listed as Lennon and McCartney. He had never heard of this song or band.
The song has a Give Peace a Chance vibe.
Do you want to know another song that has a little more than just a "Give peace a chance"..." vibe"? Play these two back to back.
The two songs have 4/4 rhythm; that's their main similarity. That, and the fact that they are both played/sung andante. You could say the same lots of rock and roll songs.
@Flyingsaucesir Same beat, the same near rap over the beat and almost the same tune.
@273kelvin Well it's true the beats are somewhat similar, but the melodies and lyrics are very distinct. Anyway I see why they appear similar to you.
It doesn't just have a Give Peace A Chance vibe, it IS that song, done to a reggae beat. I like it!
I know Byron Lee and the Dragonaires well. They were very popular in Jamaica, and ripping off rhythms from other people was a huge thing in that time. Still is to some degree. I lived in Jamaica when Ska was popular.
Yeah, it does sound like a reggae style ripoff of Give Peace A Chance, which is why they probably gave the songwriting credit to Lennon/McCartney. I had heard of Byron Lee before, as an old school Jamaican reggae or ska musician.
