Everything today is about money and it will run over you like a freight train. There is an app for everything and a great many people cashing in on it. The name of the game seems to be to convince you that you might miss out on something.

Absolutely.
That is why I don't download apps (except for those proven not to interact with the internet or update by themselves using the internet, like Musicolet).
Also, I treat my cell phone like it is 1990. Most of the time, it just sits on the kitchen table while I'm out running around. If someone calls and doesn't leave a message - it wasn't important enough for me to reply to.
I'm not afraid to miss out. I have what I need.
