Look at the post and comments (or advertisements, rather) made by these newbies- possibly bots?
Who is in charge of security control? Is this site becoming an easy target for hacking?

If you don't notice it until it has been up for 8 months, I don't think it is having much of an impact

I think we have been abandoned. It's possible that the Captain could not guide us into his way of belief or use us in politics the way he might have wanted. Meanwhile, scammers on this site claiming to be young females try to entice me in their direction. The only real person I have found is a young woman from India studying computer science. She checks in with me every couple of months and is having a hard time landing a job.

Well for while I tried to spot these assholes, but they're too many! comes up frequently. I think a bunch of them come from the same person, I can see a stupid pattern of Fishing and Scamming!
The rest are Spammers, stupid Ads, usually it's Indian's way to Improve their new websites SEO and ranking!
after all, I can't say it's Hacking, just stupid Spammers and Scammers, kinda easy to spot.
Just as a piece of advice, Never ever click on Untrusted external links, especially from newbie members around.

Oh, it's not a Bot, I don't think this platform has a Public API for a bot connection, just a stupid Human-like creature 😀
