The papal Inquisition—founded in 1542 and formally known as the Congregation of the Holy Roman and Universal Inquisition, or Holy Office—was reorganized by Pope Paul VI and renamed the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in 1965
The Supreme Sacred Congregation of the Roman and Universal Inquisition still exists, though changed its name a couple of times. It is currently called the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
Pope Benedict (Ratzinger) was head of this before he was appointed pope.
