What's so bad about bacon? I used to feel so bad eating 6 slices of bacon for breakfast, but actually it staves off my hunger so that I can skip lunch if I have to. I'm not going to feel bad about eating bacon once in a while, after listening to this! I eat everything in moderation. No one particular food item is likely to kill me.
I posted this in "health and happiness" because knowing I can eat a slice of bacon now and then without guilt makes me happy!
I'm essentially carnivorous but I eat a few vegetables (peas, onions, garlic, leeks, asparagus) which I regard as honorary meat. But I just can't stand the smell of bacon and have never knowingly eaten pig meat.
Wow, not ever knowingly eaten pig meat? Where I live we have too many pigs, so anytime there is a luau or big party, it's pulled pork, Kalua Pig. Gotta keep the pig population down. I can understand not liking the smell of bacon. I just like the taste and the way I have energy and no hunger after eating bacon. But I realize moderation is the key in all things tasty.
@Julie808 I think my prejudice against pig meat comes from my intense dislike of the pigs on my grandparents' farm. I loved the cattle (so I eat them) and hated the pigs (so I don't). I know this is all insanely illogical but nevertheless I think it's true. On the other hand it's more logical than religion!
'Tell the truth', sounds familiar, sort of like 'trust me.' Put on a white jacket and wear a stethoscope and viola instant credibility. When we first met a couple they were not vegetarians but a few years later we visited them and all of a sudden they were vegans. I asked why and the wife said they went on a cruise and Ed ate so much bacon he had a heart attack. Then they did a bit of research and got the message.
Moderation is the key. I eat bacon every few months, when it's on sale during $5 Fridays at Safeway. I change the way I eat a little bit each year after my annual check up and my doctor deciphers the results of my bloodwork.
Bacon! The downfall of many a vegetarian!
Not really.
Love bacon! By itself or on or in most anything. Just too lazy to make it most of the time. Much easier to just grill a slice of ham in the morning.
That precooked stuff that needs no refrigeration until opened, but Only the packages labeled 'Thick Cut" ain't bad at all.
i get mine at Aldi's.
Like all food, moderation is the key.
Also, how it is created. Margarine is suspect, use butter, but don't spread it too thickly
Properly cured bacon is great, but too much of it nowadays is artificially made from mechanically recovered meat, glued together and then coloured to look like bacon, with artificially added flavour. That stuff is BAD.
Home made burgers are great. Commercially made ones are highly suspect!
.... and so it goes on. Be natural, be healthy and happy.
Could well be true, i am not a biochemist, but there are no actual papers sited, and he does not say who pays for his "group".
Good point. I'm still not going to make myself feel bad if I have a few slices of bacon now and then. I'm going to eat a bit of it now and then anyway, so at least if I think it's not all that bad for me in minor moderation, I can not put myself in my mind's diet jail,
I'll second that, and think I know what I'm going to have for breakfast...
