I haven't read much, and it's far from new, but I have always liked the translations of the Martin Beck novels, and recommend them to folks here and there.

I’m old school. I liked Mika Waltari. I began to read “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” after watching the movie, but after a while I ran out of steam. I prefer whimsical fiction to mysteries because they tend to be like Hollywood movies: the ending is predictable.
