UN repeats call for China to take action in Xinjiang | DW News
Beijing has stepped up efforts to turn Xinjiang into a tourist paradise, papering over its oppression of the province's Muslim minority Uyghurs. In line with President Xi Jinping's call to "strengthen positive publicity," Xinjiang's tourism bureau plans to double its spending.
China's unyielding impulse toward demanding conformity means they can never rule the world. They will always be limited by their inability to absorb other cultures.
Ancient Chinese civilisation was well ahead of the rest of the world. While the West believed that God, some obscure figure in the sky, created the world, Chinese philosophers set their focus on the sun, the moon and stars and discussed how the universe was created. They developed three main philosophies, Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism. Many inventions were developed, too, including paper, printing, gunpowder, compass, and many more. If anything, it is the West that absorbed the knowledge from China and subsequently innovated technologies and formed their own cultures involving those technologies.
As for today's China, the people of China should be proud of their unique culture that has been developed over 3000 years, but politically, I don't know what the future holds for them. It's kinda shame that the ancient Chinese civilisation had to collapse.
If an atheist was in a similar (but reverse) situation:
Let us put you on our proselytisation/reeducation programme. We will convert you from atheist to theist, using any means necessary. That will include torture, physical and psychological, and we will not stop until we hear you say the words 'I am a theist'.
Now let's talk about your human rights.
Here in Australia American, German & British evangelists have been & continue to do exactly what you say. This has been going on since whitemen invaded the country over 200 years ago. 30 years ago American evangelists were allowed to create a circle of radio stations around the country to bombard the citizens with their American sourced proselytising crap.
How exactly does china violate religious freedom?
Are you aware that the week some secessionist Uigurs were engaged in terrorism in china? Such terrorism internationally is why guantanamo had Uigurs incarcerated.
China did overreact to stop the spread of Jihadism, not Islam.
How do you think the US would have reacted in such a situation?
Our western media is highly exaggerating the situation because china is an economic threat to the West.
And like the religious faithful, we accept what our leaders tell us.
Have you actually watched the news? If you did, watch again and focus on what they're saying, about 2 min. in.
>>>You haven't answered my point about China cracking down on jihadism, not religion.
You seriously believe that?

The Chinese government has also been closing churches and jailing pastors. I guess they are all terrorists in their eyes, too.
It does not matter what is being supressed, the use of torture and abuse is the point. And yes America probably does, and has, used torture in its fight against terror, but the crimes of America do not in any way justify the crimes of China.
@Krish55
I've provided you with enough information based on which I form my opinion about what is going on in Xinjiang. Now it's your turn. Show me, and everyone who visits this page, on what basis you form your opinion on this subject. So far, you've offered nothing but the spculation that the West is spreading propaganda against China. Provide insightful information from the Chinese viewpoint, if you can at all.
@Ryo1 @Krish55 @Fernapple The persecution of Russian orthodoxy in Ukraine is occurring through the complicity & funds supplied by the US & its NATO sycophants. . . Typical American disingenuity, hypocrisy & bullshit. As for China the US is trying to create the same abhorrence against Chinese as the Chinese have for Uyghurs or American Democrats have against American Republicans - haven't they just gaoled a bunch of them for following their Trump leader & now trying to incarcerate him also?
@Fernapple
You are right that those are not justified.
My complaint is that the western media presents it as if china just irrationally cracked down on peace loving muslims. This is anti chinese propaganda.
The whole story must be told, including the terrorism by Xinjiang jihadists, who had earlier been trained by the US before 2001. The same way that we trained Islamic fanatics of Afghanistan starting in the late 1970's.
China overreacted because it did not want that province to turn into another Afghanistan.
There is more than one party guilty here.

Sounds like the USA having people disappeared around the world to turn up in the US tourist resort of Guantanamo Bay.
Then of course there are the millions of Americans held in prison in US prisons & according to yesterday's post fed Chinese fish not fit for human consumption."More evidence of US stupidity - malnourished prisoners -"
