A very interesting man. Besides being gay all his life, and becoming openly so about it, in the middle of his career, he was also quite an athlete, as a young man, besides being a world class singer. In high school, he was an Olympic class high jumper in track and field, as well as a hurdler and basketball star, and would have been in the 1956 Olympics for the high jump, if he hadn't turned that down, to begin his singing career..
