Well, an almost incomprehensible failure on Israel's part on multiple levels. Not only did they fail to notice preparations for a large scale attack, apparently the frontier with Gaza was basically undefended? On that level at least, this is already on par with other similar stunning intelligence fails in history. The Tet Offensive (Vietnam, 1968) and the Battle of Leyte Gulf (WW2, 1944) for example. In a sane world this would drive Israel to negotiate a just settlement with the Palestinians, but in case anyone here just got to Earth, it's not a sane world and it's getting more dystopian every day. I don't know what's going to happen, but the post 9/11 world seems more like a run up to WW3 all the time.

One of the more dystopian aspects of it is that the Israelis were living in western style privilege and luxury ... just a few miles from the world's largest open air prison camp where more than a million people lived in stateless poverty for the crime of being born in Gaza. And we wonder why the aliens haven't contacted us.

God rest the souls of innocents who have died and will die in what is already a terrible war. God grant peace to their friends and loved ones. Or for the agnostic version, my heart aches for the innocents who have died in this madness, I will will continue to work for peace and reconciliation for all involved. What a mess, I fear it's going to get much worse before it gets better.
