That would good reason for civil war and I myself would favor immediate secession if the crazy democrats were to do that.
In 1863 the Court had 10 justices for 8 federal judicial circuits. Now we have more than twice the population and 13 districts. So an expansion is way overdue.
Actually, we should probably have two justices for every circuit (bringing the total to 26), and have each district divvy up the cases randomly. That would make it harder for any interest group to go shopping for a justice friendly to their cause.
Instituting term limits would also be a positive step that, with the other changes outlined above, would decrease the possibility of packing the court with partisan idealogues.
Less chance for partisan favoritism would increase faith in the fairness of the judicial system.
Republican Mitch McConnell's blocking of Merrick Garland's appointment nearly a year out from the 2016 election, saying that the voters should decide, was a dirty, underhanded trick that damaged the Court's credibility. Then he turned around and rushed Coney-Barrett's confirmation through when voters were already going to the polls in the 2020 election. It was shaping the court through brazen, barefaced hypocrisy and rank partisanship, further damaging the Court's legitimacy. Plus the 3 justices Trump appointed all lied under oath in the confirmation hearings. (They all said they respected stare decisis, all said they considered Roe settled law). More recently, we find two other Republican appointees, Alito and Thomas, accepting expensive gifts from rich assholes with interests in cases before the court. The current court has no legitimacy!
I am neither surprised nor impressed by your threat of violence in reaction to a proposed increase in the fairness and legitimacy of the nation's highest court.
It's no surprise because we already know that pathetic MAGA Republicans feel they have to cheat and bully to win.
It's not impressive because they (you) underestimate the resolve of the great, silent majority of Americans who prefer democracy over racist fascism. We kicked Hitler's ass 80 years ago. We can do it again.
Shame on you @Trajan61
@Flyingsaucesir If Trump were anything like Hitler you would be dead.
@Trajan61 Trump is not Hitler. But he is a fascist.
