If you don't believe in "God" in the traditional sense (the one taught in the Christian bible but you DO believe in one or more higher beings that have, or continue to have, a play in the course of our species...or at least having been visited or watched over by other entities (such as Ancient Astronaut theorists believe in)....are you considered an atheist?
No, you’re not. There are other descriptions, but politeness forbids ........................
I definitely don't believe in god as god is depicted in the bible. That's not even up for debate as far as I'm concerned. I don't currently believe in ANY god; but I'm not so arrogant as to insist that there is no god. I have not seen anything that absolutely proves or disproves the existence of a god. Until this "god" presents itself to me personally and quite literally (I don't do "signs" ), I will not believe.
Well, I have seen things in my life that make me know with certainty that there are entities so I definitely believe in non-human beings... I would call them gods though
An atheist is a, ahem, "being" that lacks belief in the existence of god, beyond that, that cough!coocoocough! person can believe in any other silliness possible. People have minds, and those minds can believe ANYthing. I mean ANYTHING.
Experience also dictates people's beliefs. Some have never had any so they would be less prime to believing "silliness"
Atheists don't believe in god, but from what I've seen here some are okay with believing in any number of irrational, paranormal, or supernatural nonsense. So, I guess you can believe what you want as long as it's not divine and call yourself an atheist. I do hope however that anyone who believes this BS doesn't consider himself a skeptic.
You may be right, fellow member, but not this atheist. With my run-ins with theists I'll tell them plainly I don't believe in and Gods or associated religions; also that I reject the entire spectrum of mysticism, magic, and supernatural nonsense, old age, new age, cults, sects, universe lickers, astro levitators, cosmic beamers, and universe trippers, and any other dang fool idea thought up by the religious, pseudo-religious, or the downright loop fruited 'spiritual' weirdos who have breathed in too much incense, without a scrap of proof or evidence. I agree with you and also believe every person on the side of religious non belief, whatever their designation, and reason and skepticism should be as unambiguous about rejecting the totality of nonsense that surrounds us.
If you call this thing you are describing ‘god’, then no, you are not an atheist.
A simple, one word answer to your query from me, NO.
However, having said that, I do have an inkling that far older and more advanced Extra-Terrestrial Species have visited this tiny rock upon which we have evolved from time to time both in the past and, on occasions, in the present time as well.
If you don't actively believe in any deities then that would make you an atheist. But that's all that is required to be an atheist. Beyond that atheists can be whatever they'd like technically.
And believe what ever they want, just no deity.
Atheists see no proof in gods. No proof that a god is required, let alone exist. I have also seen no proof of aliens visiting or watching over us either. It’s all fantasy...
To you, because you've never seen proof of other life forms. Had you, no one could convince you you that they don't exist.
Atheists and agnostics do not believe in god or gods or spirits or supernatural beings of any kind. But, if scientific evidence is presented they will believe.
How can any scientific, rational, empirical evidence EVER be produced for something that is purely imaginary in the first place?
As an Ancient Greek Philosopher, cannot quite recall off-hand his name atm, once posited;
"To create/invent any/all Deities one must first ensure that the following are adhered to,
It is interesting to note the intelligence quota of people who have been visited by aliens. They are most undoubtedly 'special people'. But i don't envy them their 'specialness'. ?
Since this site is called agnostic.com, OP’s question might be considered understandable. I myself have forgotten which it is, agnostic or atheistic.
