Are there others out there who despite Anti-theistic/Atheistic/Agnostic beliefs enjoy religious type films/shows? For example, Supernatural (CWTV show), The Exorcist, The Omen, etc.? I find these religious type films/tv shows to be greatly entertaining, was wondering if anyone else enjoys the same or similar?

I enjoyed the C S Lewis books as a child. I had no idea they were inspired by religion.

Religion is part of history and society, good fodder for a film... I suppose the Exorcist would be scarier if I believed in possession, I think some people have mental disorders that should be diagnosed by a Dr, not a priest. I would not watch shows that attempt to indoctrinate but entrainment is fine. However the genre the exorcist and the omen are in is horror not religion and aptly so. As an atheist I don’t believe in God but I’m not making believe religion doesn’t exist.

Has anyone ever seen the Mr Show spoof of Jesus Christ Superstar, Jeepers Creepers, featuring Jack Black? Friggin' HILARIOUS, and VERY well done...

I LOVE ghost themed horror flicks...fun stuff, very creative...and I adore the soundtrack (stage version, original) to 'Jesus Christ Superstar'...the lyrics, music and vocals are amazing.

The 10 Commandments with Charleton Heston was the shit.......lol

Yul Brynner as Rameses was awesome!

Sure, Why not? What's the difference between that and Einstein reading Sci-Fi? Or anyone reading novels, for that matter? Good fiction is good fiction - why should it need to be in the realm of reality?

Both hands up ??

Certainly. You don't have to be religious to enjoy a good horror show...but it helps. 😉

I am a HUGE Supernatural fan.
HUGE...

You totally mentioned my favorite show: Supernatural. I've binged that show so many times. And now I'm dying to know what happens between Jack and Lucifer.

I find that being a non-thiest is far more advantageous for stories like this since I can enjoy it for what it is... a story. That's all religion is, a story. Mythologies are stories. It's all a story and I think it's perfectly human to enjoy them. After all, we're storytelling animals.

By the way, did you see ScoobyNatural? O...M...G...! I love Scooby Doo, and I love Supernatural, and putting the two together made me feel like a young kid again.

Oh My Chuck!!! LOVED Scoobynatural!
Didn't want to put my hopes up to high, but I was well entertained and they did both shows justice.
Also can't wait to see how the Jack and Lucifer story goes.

I was following the series,'Preacher', really good take on god, angels and hell. Best was hell scenes where a main character was friends with Hitler.

Preacher is awesome! Can't wait for season 3 premiere!

Yes! I love a new show called The Path. I think it is a HULU original. I love shows about cults because I just can't wrap my head around these people who follow blindly to the extreme. Also just watched Wild Wild Country on Netflix about the Rashneeshes (I know I spelled that wrong), they were a cult in Oregon in the 80's very intriguing the lengths people will go to.
Loved the Omen back in the day. Also read some good books by women who left the FLDS.
We have many Amish families where I live, I've always been intrigued by them too.

I loved the Exorcist and the Omen..does it bother me as an atheist?..I suspend my beliefs for SciFi, so it's not a stretch..

I also enjoy Supernatural. The exorcist and the omen not so much

@Virginia mine too. 😀

The two you've mentioned ''work'' as horror films...religion included. Those are fun! Now..."Song of Bernardette" or "The Robe" or anything that's NOT deliberately horrifying is usually just sappy propaganda.

There is that..or the Ten Commandments..Ben Hur etal..I just don't watch them..

@Charlene I'd forgotten old Heston waving his stone tablets at everyone! And parting the seas. And looking determinedly NOBLE. HAH!

@LucyLoohoo it was practice for his NRA days, don'tcha know.

@Charlene "FROM MY COLD, DEAD HAND." Right. He probably had a ''stiffie,'' saying that!

@LucyLoohoo Lolololololololol
