Edison had maybe 1,000 failed prototypes for the electric light.
The idea was stolen but he persevered and made it actually work.
Science similarly tries out many ways of looking at things/making things work. Seldom does anybody come up with a perfect gadget or theory on the first try.

I would say 'Yes'. We can never be absolutely certain about how the world works. Science can't prove hypotheses or theories with absolute certainty... (Wait, does that mean there is no such thing as absolute truth?) That's why science is never ending.
