The U.S. Senate is about to vote on a crippling bill that will hard most of us in ways we could or would never image!:
What else can these INSANE republicans think of to strip us of our earned and voted for protections?
Dangerous and dishonest policies such as the “balanced budget amendment” hurt children and working families; they hurt older Americans and people with disabilities; all to protect tax breaks for wealthy Wall Street donors. We demand that you reject the dangerous “balanced budget amendment,” which would result in massive cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps and more.
Now, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said that the U.S. Senate is planning a vote on a similarly dishonest and dangerous amendment.
Americans for Tax Fairness Action Fund is standing with our partners at CREDO to stop this attempt by Congressional Republicans to cut critical services for working families and older Americans―just to pay for their Trump-GOP tax scam that mostly benefited the rich and corporations while adding nearly $2 trillion to the national debt.
A balanced budget amendment would require deep cuts to critical services because Republicans will block at all cost our goal to make the richest 1% and wealthy corporations pay their fair share of taxes. Just look at what Trump is trying to do now. After the Republican Congress passed the Trump tax scam last year, Trump proposed a budget this year that would slash Medicare, Medicaid, education, food stamps―even Social Security disability funds. All to pay for his tax cuts.
With this vote, Republicans are making a political calculation. They think that by passing this dangerous amendment in an Election Year, they can claim the mantle of fiscal responsibility. That’s why there’s a lot of pressure on Democrats to support this disastrous proposal. We need to make sure there are no defections, and that we get rank-and-file Republicans to oppose their leadership!
