She needs to pick the right hill. I suggest that she kills the filibuster over immigration, not abortion. That way she can claim a true bi-partisan mandate.

Killing the filibuster to protect abortion rights is a good start, but Kamala will have to go farther than that. She also needs to add at least 4 justices to the Supreme Court. Then the crazy recent ruling giving presidents immunity for all "official" acts can be reversed. Congress can deal with Citizens United by passing a new campaign finance law. (My preference would be restrict it to public financing only. Level the playing field. 86 the lobbyists.)

@FrayedBear 🐂💩

@Flyingsaucesir Geoge Carlin "America is one big lie" - people are stupid & dumbass

@FrayedBear There's a reason George Carlin is an American artist, and not a Russian one. In Russia, the leadership will not, cannot tolerate such criticism. They have a facade to maintain.

I am not against totally ending the Filibuster, but if we hare to have it, require it be the old kind where a person had to stand up there and continuously talk in order to hold the floor. It might also be good to have a requirement that the person with the floor stay on the topic of the bill or action being discussed.

I think the rules changed when we got C-SPAN, which allows the American people to view live what is happening in the congress and senate. I think those who wanted to hold the chamber hostage didn't want to actually be seen doing it, so they invented the silent filibuster where they no longer had to stand up and justify their opposition on the floor in full view of everyone.

@FrayedBear That line goes back to the middle ages, when virtually all the medical schools were Christian based. Today, the Hippocratic Oath, at least in virtually every secular based schools, no longer contains that line.

@snytiger6 the oath goes back to ancient Greek times, 2000+ years ago. Who do you think Hippocrates was? A buddy of Shakespeare?

@snytiger6 look up Wikipedia on Hippocratic Oath.
Extracted from it this section which confirms your statement presumably resulting from the change in the law regarding pregnancy terminations. Long before the US changed to allow terminations I remember over 40 years ago Poland, then part of the USSR, abortion was the favoured means of contraception in the country. My neighbour's son who wife died of cancer shortly after giving birth died of cancer believed to have been enabled by the previous 14 abortions that she had undergone! . . . The oath requires that doctors do no harm to their patients. The following information from WHO is enlightening:
[who.int]

@FrayedBear The gist of the WHO is that inaccessibility to quality abortion care means there are a lot of unsafe abortions throughout the world. There is a slight increased risk for breast cancer for women who have later term abortions. However,thee is also a slight increased risk just from pregnancy itself. It is the hormone changes associated with becoming pregnant, not the abortion itself. So, yeah, fourteen pregnancies increases the risk(s) all by itself, regardless of whether or not the pregnancies were terminated.

I am of the school of thought that abortions should be safe, legal and rare. Meaning there are many ways to prevent pregnancy, and most thinking people use them when they don't wish to have children. However, no form of birth control is 100% effective. Also, most women on birth control are not aware that some antibiotics reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills. I have a niece who found that out after the fact of inadvertently/unintentionally getting pregnant.

Before the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, in the U.S. it was riskier for the life of a woman to carry a pregnancy full term than it was to have an abortion. Now the quality of abortions in the U.S. will fall as desperate women seek out means which are not safe, and the U.S. will see a rise in deaths, and it has already started. You won't have safe abortions unless they are also legal.

Love the triple chin analogy. So many bad ideas have come from SCROTUS and Citizens United was one of the worst. I still remember when Obama chastised the court how they sat there looking like they were being insulted (Obama was a Constitutional expert). Kamala will have her hands full trying to remedy all the ills brought on this country by the power hungry and uncaring Republicans.Some Republican politicians are not running this term as they hate being pigeonholed into just party lackeys.
