Try [atheistuniverse.ning.com] It is more international .American political indoctrination and worship does not feature as much. This forum is run by groups. You choose which groups appeal to you or create your own. The narrative is respectful and polite.. All in all ,it is not perfect, but it does have it's merits.There many Australian members as there are Brits, Danish , African etcetc. It also has moderators that make sure that things work!

@David1955 I think I will sty with Atheist universe when this one dies. In A.U. you have groups rather than all the comments. O have my laughter is medicine group. where i post jokes.A good on there about the man from snowy river. Anyway you choose a group that iinterests you and discuss that topic, this cuts out these political hacks going nuts. there is
also discussion board which is general . all this is regulated by the activity board. Anyone comments in a group or discussion forum etc, the activities will summarise the comment and post it so all can see and take part in the group/ discussion. E.G **++ has commented in blah blah group, If you are interested you go the group/discussion and take whatever action you choose. It sounds confusiong but actually works rather well.
@vocaloldfart saddest for me is all the hours that I've put in to the groups that I've founded or administered on this site.
