Never Before Seen: Deer Spotted Eating Human Bones (National Geographic)
Years ago some researchers exploring the bay outside of San Francisco spotted a pod of Orcas. They then spotted a large shark headed for the whales. One whale broke off and went after the shark. The researchers watched as the whale and shark met and disappeared into the deep. Later the whale emerged with a part of the shark in it's mouth and returned to the pod. It was shown that if one can turn a shark over it will go still and the whale learned this trick ans was able to kill the shark this way. The thing that was brought out was that when a species experiences a desperate situation (starvation) they do desperate and unusual things. A lot of species, large and small are at this point and in our area, the Salish Sea, this has become a major problem with the Orca's.
Dolphins have also been seen killing other species of dolphin for sport.
@Qualia So that makes them almost human like?
@JackPedigo Yes it does....
Zombie apocalypse.
Who'd have thought it would start this way?
Oh deer
@Blindbird LMAO!!!
[popsci.com] and this one if you follow the deer eating live birds link.
!!!
I'm not surprised by this as they chew their own discarded antlers to reabsorb some of the nutrients that are expended in growing them (various other animals will eat antlers when they find them, too) - antlers are bone, so it makes sense that they might sometimes eat other types of bone too.
Not just bone tho. They're documented as eating human flesh, fish, & other critters.
