I had forgotten this site so when I ran across the entry in my spreadsheet, I decided to check it out in more depth than previously.
I don't know if there are deities controlling the universe(s). Therefore I am an agnostic. I also fall under the atheist umbrella because I don't believe in a singular deity or potentially multiple deities.
I am a scientist, driven by mathematics. I believe in the "force". Thank you Star Wars. However, I think the force is possibly beyond my mortal comprehension. Therefore, I can only speculate about the force's origin and characteristics. I do meditate in an attempt to perhaps gain knowledge of the universe via shutting my mind off and concentrating on a mantra.
So, to honor the instruction provided to me here. Does anyone relate to my statements? Is anyone active in this place?
May the agnostic be with you!!!
Agnosticism is irrelevant. Everyone is agnostic, including theists. They, like everyone else, DO NOT KNOW definitively if a god or the force exists, that is why agnosticism is irrelevant.
Theist: theist = belief in god
Agnostic: a = without; gnostic = knowledge
Atheist: a = without; theist = belief in god
In order to know, you must have knowledge, in order to have knowledge, you must have evidence. Believers simply believe without evidence producing knowledge. An atheist or non-believer accepts knowledge that evidence produces. Theists have NOT produced any evidence for gods.
This is why atheists demand proof in order to obtain knowledge and theists demand belief in order to sustain their faith.
A god is not defined by reality or existence, believers make the assertion that it is, the god makes no assertion whether it exists or not, it is therefore the believer who must then prove the assertions they make.
There have been innumerable myths over the centuries that are no more real or relevant than they were when the first fool believed the idiot who invented them, it would be foolish to hold onto a false legitimacy of a god or force until it has been proven, the believer must prove their nonsense or "truth" with evidence first.
You sound a little bit Buddhist...and maybe a bit ignostic...and maybe a bit panentheist.
I am an anti-theist (someone who is against religion because to the great harm it does to humanity). Dictatorships use religion to enslave their people and start wars we see that going on all over the world to this day. I feel it is far past time for the human race to grow the fuck up and leave these violent, repulsive, regressive and repressive beliefs where they belong.... The distant past...
What the world needs now is love, sweet love.
@Betty Or at least education...
@Lizard_of_Ahaz
Both.
@Betty Religion has always found it easier to peddle hate and ignorance than love and education.... Also it keeps their religions from losing followers.
@Lizard_of_Ahaz
I agree. Greedy opportunists use that ignorance and hate to gain control and power.
@Lizard_of_Ahaz it matters not to christi-inanity how much of an arsehole you might be and you literally can get away with murder if you just pray in Jesus name, instant forgiveness. Not the kind of people I care to rub elbows with. Luckily faith is almost an embarrassment to admit. If it is not an embarrassment it sure should be
Ask any well adjusted individual if they think we should reserve judgement until more evidence is provided. They only resort to wordplay after the question if it is answered at all. Nobody asks the dead there opinions!
I'm alive because my parents were super horny on their honeymoon!
Honeymoon? No shotguns involved?
How's ya been anyways? Can't open your stuff anymore.
Super horny is awesome sauce!!
@puff That's the story I was told! Lol!!! They made me on their honeymoon!
I'm doing okay, just living day to day, how about you puffy?
@Aaron70 It was their honeymoon and they were both only 21 years old, so of course they were super horny!
@michelle666gar Well I can’t recall much about things at 21, but I’m still super horny, for whatever that’s worth…..
@michelle666gar All good, bloody cold lately in Oz.
@Aaron70 Hope you have a partner or your hand at least!
@puff You're having winter! I'll trade you! It's 95° with 35% humidity here in the desert! Our swamp coolers are not working! I'm overheated, stomach hurts and I feel nauseous.
@michelle666gar They really need a laugh and cry emoji. Hands warm We'll be back into it soon enough, floods fire and hail all at the same time.
Just heard Yosemite animals are doing the Harold Holt, hope nothing starts shaking too badly
@puff We're having all of that here in the United States! Happy summer to you The animals in Yosemite are sick of all the stupid tourists!
@michelle666gar Summer is Xmas time for us, good for new years eve's a nice, hot, balmy night. Skiing season here where's there's snowy bits. Really nice days but chilly nights.
@michelle666gar Some ozzie music for you
@puff I prefer winter here!
@puff Sounds like the song is from the 80's
@michelle666gar very 80's
The mind is a force or the force. We are the creator of our universe. Dissonance arises when we forget this and move 'force' outside of ourselves. The 'force' is within.
We are individuals, some believe we all have the same force and if we don't then we need to be in agreement with their force in order to make the world 'right', perfect, etc. that is then called religion. Grifters figured out how to exploit that dissonance.
I which there had been more attention to Tesla beyond exploiting his ideas. He harnessed the power of Niagara Falls but we are not taught this in school.
As to this site, the administration seems to have abandoned it and so it is a bit wonky.
We’re all “a bit wonky”.
@CrazySkeptic
I agree. It is what makes us interesting and fun.
@CrazySkeptic Celebrate it!!
I am sympathetic to your position. I see no positive evidence, but life is a curious experience and many unaccountable things happen. No religious discipline has earned any respect.
At the same time, many intriguing problems are out there. The so-called 'Fine Tuning' may be a consequence of the anthropic principle. Perhaps the remarkable ratios come from other features yet to be discerned. The proposition of a God solves nothing, and more commonly gets invoked to shut down inquiry. Evolution cleanly dismantles Christianity by corollary. The motives for proposing God have yet to be cleansed of their primitive origins, and that is a necessary step to pursue objective truth...
M y favourite quote ever is from Nikola Tesla.
"The day science begins to study non-physical phenomena, it will make more progress in one decade than in all the previous centuries of its existence."
May you find the force.
Science isn’t good at studying non-physical phenomena. Quantifying the phenomena’s attributes is an early step in the scientific process. I love Tesla but this doesn’t really make sense. He was really an innovator not a scientist.
@CrazySkeptic because science is the study of our physical world, things we can sense. But he, like me, assume there is a lot of shit going on we don't sense.................yet. We should start looking rather than our most brilliant scientific minds be swallowed up by either the weapons industry or pharmaceutical industry.
I don’t believe anything. I do however give merit to evolution over creation, physics over supernatural, and compromise over extremism.
I once studied to be a Pentecostal minister but today I believe in zero gods of any kind. The biblical god is no more relevant than Zeus or Jupiter. I do not meditate and I do not pray. Meditation may help clear the mind however. I'm not into mantras and I do not believe in "a force." What kind of force? Star Wars aside, can you give an example? Gaining more knowledge of our universe is strictly in the hands of science.
Luke, I am your father!
