Cover-up (a la Nixon)

In a 1200-page book outlining moral behavior, one would suppose that pedophilia would figure prominently. It doesn't. Other than non-specific passages generally opposing violence, the Bible does NOT talk about pedophilia. Preachers point to these non-specific passages when they need to grab a fig leaf to defend the Bible.

("Many classical Islamic sources, including Hadith collections like Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, indicate that Aisha was six years old when she was married and nine years old at the time of the marriage's consummation." )

NOR does the Bible explicitly condemn rape, with the minor technical statements in Deuteronomy 22: 25-29. Rape should be readily understood and condemned, but like slavery, only certain circumstances are said to be objectionable.

What a fucked-up culture to be so vague in its moral pronouncements. One has to be morally bankrupt to believe in these religions.

Extracts:
25 “But if in the open country a man meets a young woman who is betrothed, and the man seizes her and lies with her, then only the man who lay with her shall die. 26 But you shall do nothing to the young woman; she has committed no offense punishable by death. For this case is like that of a man attacking and murdering his neighbor, 27 because he met her in the open country, and though the betrothed young woman cried for help there was no one to rescue her.

28 “If a man meets a virgin who is not betrothed, and seizes her and lies with her, and they are found, 29 then the man who lay with her shall give to the father of the young woman fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife, because he has violated her. He may not divorce her all his days.

Deuteronomy 22:25-26 (Betrothed Woman)
The Scenario: A man finds a betrothed young woman in the open fields, seizes her, and lies with her.
The Punishment: Only the man who committed the act shall die.
The Woman's Status: The young woman is not guilty of a capital offense and is not to be punished.
Deuteronomy 22:27 (Rationale for the Law)
The Context: This is like a man rising against his neighbor to commit murder.
The Woman's Lack of Defense: The betrothed young woman may have cried out, but there was no one to save her from the situation.
Deuteronomy 22:28-29 (Unbetrothed Virgin)
The Scenario:
A man comes upon an unbetrothed young woman, a virgin, seizes her, and lies with her.
The Consequences if Discovered:
If their act is discovered, the man who lay with her must:
Give the young woman's father fifty silver shekels.
Take the young woman as his wife.
Be forbidden from divorcing her for the rest of his life."
