So, the LDS Church (Mormons) are telling the Scouts adios over the inclusion of girls and homosexuals:
Mormons severing all ties with Boy Scouts, ending long bond

There are some parents who already are screaming to not let them do activities together because of the possibility of sex....hahaha there is so much sex going on in the mormon boyscouts, the scouts themselves won't even be aware the girls are there.
But surely, they will be protected by their anti-devil underwear?!!
I think it was more the inclusion of females than homosexuals to be honest - the Mormons want homosexuals to just not have sex with the same gender - stay chaste, and no problem (or so they say ...). On the other hand, the church is very patriarchal and has strictly defined gender roles. Women cannot be scouts. End of discussion!
My mom converted after marrying my dad, several years before I was born. My dad is a nevermo, but he has had several callings in the church, all in scouts. When my brother was younger dad organized the Pinewood Derby, and had a special division for friends/family who wanted to race as well. Numerous people at church had a problem with this, but no one wanted to spend the time to organize it themselves. So my sneaky nevermo Dad actually let girls participate in Scout activities in a Mormon church back in the 80s. WTG Dad!
The Mormons took over the scouts because of financial reasons. Has that been resolved? Maybe the BS are looking at the GS to get some of their ?
I honestly do not know if their financial problems have been resolved, or not. However, considering the costs of running such an organization, I doubt it. I would bet that over the next decade, or so, they will disappear, or morph into something quite different.
@Condor5 However, the girl scouts managed. Having programs subsidized helps and that will come into play once the dreaded Mormons are out of the picture.
The Mormon church has the right to walk away. Sure to me it seems silly, but it's their right to express their disdain to a choice of inclusion by the scouts. I was fortunate that my scout troop wasnt affiliated with a religious organization. (We had our own building) and that was a good thing in my opinion. And it will only show that the Mormon church even now has a closed minded attitude. Even when they were the ones who at their inception were ostracized for their beliefs of multiple wives and such. Guess sometimes we fail to learn from our own history.
I often think that LSD would be more appropriate as shorthand for the Mormons.
Joe Smith must have been as high as a kite to make up that crap.
I think of Smith as another con man, like most religion founders.
Had he been taking LSD, he might have come up with something more profound. Here are some links to its apparent contribution to technology, if anyone's interested:
