I don't want encourage drinking or anything, but I discovered several years ago that having a glass of whiskey in the evenings could make me feel things again, with that depth that I used have in my youth. It was like a place where a breeze from the past came in, and tingled with feeling. Getting older, I think, sometimes makes us more numb to the beauty and feeling and mystery of the world. Having that drink helps me to feel it wordlessly, and ties me into my past self in a deep sense. Its odd, because it seems some people drink in order not to feel things, but not me. And I keep to one drink a day, unless I'm with friends and drinking beer.
Whiskey's not the drink I choose.
I prefer the Scotsman's booze.
Whisky, born of highland peat,
And savoured full strength, slowly, neat.
Yes! I've heard so-called 'experts' say that a dash of water is needed to bring out the flavour. I don't agree with them.
The same thing happens to me when I drink Everclear and listen to Black Sabbath at 78 speed on my old turntable. Just one 16 oz glass is all it takes for me to feel the words of Ozzy.
I've always been a whiskey drinker. I don't drink to forget or remember. I just like to sit by the fire pit after a long day of yard work and relax
Sounds good to me!
Same, I do not drink often, but a decent scotch on ice to relax and reward myself.
Many of doctors have said a beer a day, glass a wine day or a shot of whisky is actually good for your body too. I am a diabetic and my doctor keeps telling me i have a shot of whiskey day or a beer if i want, but i don't drink, personal choice, just don't care for it. But been thinking maybe i should. Might help me stop yelling at teenagers and methheads in my nieghborhood so much lol
My grandfather was diabetic, and was actually prescribed to take a shot of whiskey a day by a doctor. Of course, this was long time ago.
Oh my pleasure is... say No to drinking on a Daily basis while watching humans get hammered to the point of Idiocy. I should had been a bartender! Pleasuring me for a living!
I get the same feeling from hearing an old song I haven't heard in decades, or walking in nature.
Those things do it too, but not as intensely.
Makes complete sense to me only alcohol doesn't do that for me but weed definitely does.
Yup. I don't drink alcohol - no issues, just never liked it.
I find one good toke brings a less barbed side of me out.
I don't know that I'm any more reflective - May be a more forgiving attitude.
That is one of the most eloquent posts I've read in a while. And yours are always good.
You write beautifully. It is a joy reading your posts. Thank you.
